A month or two back, I was going over several of my projects (started but never finished) and decided I would try to simplify things by combining some, modifying them, and jsut putting others on the back burner.
What came out was Aelios. (found out later that this is a form of the Greek Helios, meaning sun) Oh well. The descriptions I'm giving don't really convey all that they therein contain (some of which I still don't know yet.) The map would be helpful for you to see, but oh well. I'll also post a small myth I've come up with regarding how Aelios came to be settled by men...
Tell me what you think. No real plot yet (that's another tale). This is just the world. If you want I can email you my map, just let me know.
So here's some of the physical descriptions:
The Lands of Aelios:
Thingard lies farthest west. Once a mighty empire that covered all of the land south and west of the Contir and Grivin Rivers. Thingard now only occupies a large peninsula of land wth the Ma River as its northern boundary, the Kalidon Mountains and the Inthil Forest as its eastern boundary and the sea to the south and east. Its capital is Castel Arnatin on the west coast.
Grandstone is the southernmost kingdom. It is bounded on the west, south, and east by sea. It is bounded on the north by the Inthil Forest (to which it lays claim), the Sunara River, and nominally on the northeast by the Grivin River. It also claims the island of Inis Garin off its southwestern coast. Its capital is Fraeburg.
Mercara lies directly to the north of Grandstone. The Sunara River is its southern boundaryl on the west and north, the Kalidon Mountains; on the east, the Grivin and Junis Rivers. It contains the largest body of freshwater in the land (Kiprosa Lake) and it is completely landlocked. Its capital is Greenhead.
Welsa lies to the east of Mercara. It is bounded by the Junis and Grivin Rivers to the west; the Kalidon Mountains to the north and northwest; the Calona River on the east and the sea on the south. Its capital is Welsana.
Verhedge lies to the southeast of Welsa, with the Calona River being its western border; the Kalidon Mountains, its northern; and the sea o the south and the east. Its capital is Kindar.
Milinas lies north of Verhedge, bounded on the south and west by the Kalidon Mountains, the north by the Onala River, and the sea to the east. Its capital is Milinar
Farthana lies in the Eastern Sea, off the coast of Milinas, to which it is a sister kingdom. Its capital is Karna.
Orisa is the only other kingdom in the land. Bounded on the south by the Kalidon Mountains, it lies to the north of Mercara. The Plantin River is its eastern boundary; the Silvanti River is its western; and the sea is its northern. Its capital is Prayal Naya.
Other regions:
The Free States lie between Thingard and Orisa (the Ma and Silvanti Rivers) and is composed of several self-governing democratic states.
Sperandia is located in the northeastern corner of the continent. It is a long valley, located in the midst of mountains.
The Northern Wastes lie north of the Kalidon Mountains, east of the Plantin River. A vast region where only sparse grass grows, if at all, the Wastes are home to few people, mainly nomadic herders belonging to no nation. The Orisan name for it is Co’ul Tanim (Place of Dragons).
