I'm thinking of pitching some anthology ideas to publishers/editors that I know. What type of anthologies would you like to contribute to or what themes would you like to see?
Searching for SF/F/H secular & Christian plus regional.
Deadline Oct 16th, 2010.
Thank you everyone!

Hi,
I think mixing up the secular & Christian could be a cool idea - that way, I think, more people will not only take note of the Christian SFF that's out there, but also see that it's not just people that want to preach to them through a thin guise and calling it "fantasy". Then perhaps focus on a certain sub-genre - high fantasy, space opera, etc.
My two cents... ;D

I tossing out a list of possible anthology ideas I’m thinking of pitching to various publishers or self publishing since there are a couple of open avenues.
DO NOT send any stories until asked to do so. I am simply listing these here to get feedback and possible interest from the writers on The Anomaly. IF any of these are a go, invites and open calls will be extended to both secular and Christian speculative writers.
1. Western Trunk Tales – thinking of pitching to Flying Pen Press A regional collection of short stories about items pulled from an old trunk. Can range from finding a dinosaur bone to something belonging to Molly Brown, Baby Doe Tabor or other Colorado historical characters to ghost town or ghost stories. MUST be actual ghost town or documented ghost story. Research will be needed to contribute story.
2. Prehistoric Chronicles – pitch to….? A collection of dinosaur stories ranging from telling from the dino’s perspective to present day archeologist discoveries. Want fresh approach to an old theme. What’s not wanted: 1950’s style cave people or similar to Auel’s Children of the Earth or 10,000 BC, Jurassic Park or monster loose in modern day eating people, Loch Ness monster speculation and no giant bugs on another planet. G, PG rating ONLY!
3. Dragon and Cat Tails – pitch to….? I’ve seen this portrayed in several artist prints but haven’t seen many stories using this theme. How would your cat react to finding a dragon in your back yard? Would your dragon accept a feline? All stories must have a dragon and some sort of cat. Feel free to use domestic felines as well as ferals or any large cat, ie Tiger, Lion, etc. Please, research behavior, habitat, etc of any cat used. Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror themes accepted. G. PG rated only.
4. Among the Stars – pitch to….? A collection of stories based on space travel, colonizing other planets, finding aliens or their archeological evidence, (see Andre Norton books X Factor or Beast Master Series for good examples of this) interstellar wars, and would really like to see some good family based stories. No ‘Lost in Space’ or Robinson Crusoe like themes.
5. In the Dark – pitch to….? These would be stories based in caves since there are a number of beautiful ones all across the country. Could be both fiction or actual accounts of people’s experiences in them. No scary monsters. The idea is to encourage people to visit these national treasures. Poetry also accepted but only two or three will be selected.
6. Will God Exist? – pitch to…? Speculation by both Christian and secular writers about the future of God and humans or even non humans. Will man’s understanding reach a point they no longer feel a need for God or will the vastness of space compel a new surge of belief? What type of belief systems will non humans have or will they have any when they’re found? Or will humans try to be missionaries to them? And with what results? No Tribulation stories.
7. By the Seashore – pitch to….? Gothic stories based in old houses, castles, etc. Must be by a body of water. Can be futuristic, in the past or present. Science Fiction, Fantasy, Romance, Thrillers, Mystery, Supernatural, Horror Pretty open on this one. G, PG only. No sex. Can take couple to the bedroom door but not beyond. No sexual demons.
8. A Time For – pitch to…? A mixture of futuristic tales based on what the writers think it is A Time For. Very open theme so allow the imagination to soar.

Dragonlots, don't know if I can contribute to any of the anthologies as I'm not a short story writer (anything I try turns about to be 2 pages or 200 pages long with nothing in the middle). However, I love the idea of a collection of Dragon and Cat tales.

Hey DL, how serious is this idea?
I've got a really, really different dragon tale, short story, almost finalized. It's set in my Guardianship Universe.
The dragonid is not a typical type, the dragons in this universe are the scientists and engineers of a covenantal relationship with the descendant of Enoch the patriarch.
It runs about 9,000 words. I wrote it as a character development piece to get to know the young dragon who was to be half of a human/dragon pair for a novel.
Does that sound interesting to you?
I expect to post it over on the Sandbox once more for Crits before I submit it anywhere. I was aiming it at Jim Baen's Universe slush.

Newburydave,
I’m pretty serious about this however NOTHING is going to happen until after the beginning of next year. I’m pretty swamped right now with three short stories due, a book review for Sonar4 Pub, plus I’m doing NaNoWriMo for the first time. I am busily trying to get all my characters, settings, and background done before the start date of Nov 1st. Also, I have a con appearance in less than two weeks. It’s there I’m hoping to pitch a couple of ideas to FFP.
Anyway, I’ll keep everyone posted on this. I need to do a bit more research on the self publishing angle before I officially open up for submissions. Also, I may be able to get a publisher interested and the theme will depend on their preference.
I’ll keep everyone updated as events unfold.

Just a quick update. I did talk to a publisher during MileHiCon weekend who might be interested in publishing an anthology with a mix of Christian & secular writers. They were recommended to my by another writer. However, I must stress I will not be pursuing this until after the beginning of the year and IF THIS HAPPENS – I will post an open call for submissions on the forums.
Please, DO NOT query me about it. IF this comes about, I will post which anthology and the guidelines.
Thank you!
