Hey all, I'm new here, but thought I'd throw this idea out there and see what everyone thinks of it.
I came up with this idea a few weeks ago. A young woman named Mara Dvorak is given a strange ring by her grandmother. Once on her finger, the ring won't come off. Mara eventually discovers that it's an ancient piece of technology that allows her to connect to the telepathic minds of the dragons. She has become the new Dragon Caller, an ancient post charged with keeping the dragons and those who help them safe from The Stand, a demon-controlled group of people who would like to wipe the dragons out.
That's the basics of the first book, anyway. The second books deals with Mara finding out why The Stand hates the dragons (because the dragons are hiding the sword that their Christ figure will use in His second coming), and the third book is about the quest to find that sword.
So I guess this is a sci-fi/urban fantasy/spiritual thriller. Anyone interested?

Sounds very cool, skribblegurl. I like the idea of dragons in spaceships.
A sort of similar idea (though with dinosaur-type creatures, not dragons) is Stuart Vaughn Stockton's novel Starfire.
Anyway, I like your idea!

Thanks Jeff!
Yeah, I recently read Starfire. And loved it!

All kinds of hiding spots in a place as big as space. I like the idea too! However, I didn't realized there were spaceships; I thought the dragons were able to survive in space without technological protections. Although, I've long harbored dreams of epic space battles between dragons and "men" in spaceships. Maybe it's just me...

I've always pictured the dragons as being able to survive both in large spaceships and outside in space. Oh, battls between dragons and spaceships...that would be cool!

o.O
What about Rogue Squadron vs. force-sensitive dragons? Too much? Where's Michael Stackpole when you have an idea?
