Tossing my two cents into the renewal ring....the idea of cats being telepathic or telekinetic has merit.
We have a old black tom cat who transports himself in and out of the house when no one is looking...and when no one let him in or out either. Plus he can "tell" us what he wants without twitching a whisker or making a sound. Crazy I know, but whether the rest of the world would buy the idea of telepathic cats, at least cat people would.

Oh, I believe it, totally! How else would a cat be able to find my kill zone? Yes, a cat did attack me with fatalities in mind. But animals have a much greater ability to use their senses (and in cats' cases, bodies) to achieve things we'd believe impossible. The whole sixth-sense thing is real, though I might not call it that, quite. We have the same general equipment they have, but we might not learn how to use it until Heaven invades Earth. So telepathic, and telekinetic, is not fantasy. 'Tis real, and not necessarily soup-ernatural. Your two cents, plus my two cents...equals... (Other self jumps up and down, waving a hand and shouting, "I got it! I got it!") Yes? ("Five!") Ehhh...maybe. Maybe it equals ten. That's similar to what someone said, sometime, maybe in the Bible. Not quite the same, but who cares? Certainly not my other self!

Oh, whoops! I didn't realize there was a whole page of stuff before this. I totally agree with nbDave, that there's the supernatural part of it. But I'm also saying there's a part that's completely in the bounds of physical ability. When a computer gives you a headache, just by being near you (It's possible.), that's what I'm talking about. Our bodies picking up signals that are not detectable by our normal senses, but are manifestations of a different side of our physiology. Our bodies are in tune to electrical/magnetic stuff, if only slightly. We can't tell very often, but it does happen all the time. I'm not sure if you could knock someone out with your "super stinkin' thinkin,'" but things like levitation are out there. Just check your spiritual senses to see if there's a demon lurking around and helping the levitator out.
Again, my two-out-of-five cents.

Choosy, I like the self that adds two and two and gets 10. In a mirror-verse you can actually do that. I did an entire math workup in a mirror-verse for extra credit in middle school.

Wow! I like that! I've heard of a couple different ways that works out, now. One is mirror-verses, and the other is called, um, something.... It's the base-whatever numeral system. Base 8, base 6, and in this case, it would be, base 4? You add two and two and get four, but four is really ten, the number at which you carry the one and make a zero. And that's in our universe, too! But I wouldn't be very enthusiastic if someone told me I'd have to do what you did.... Different kind of math, er...actually...I think I would like it! Haha! What I was talking about when I said two plus two is ten, was the spiritual thing. I can't remember what the biblical quote is, but there's something about when two people are in agreement about something, they have ten times the influence as one. So I just paraphrased it. Oh, and if you add three plus five underwater, it always comes out seven. (Another misguided quote.)

And then there are the fun ones.
How do you take one away from 29 to equal 30? XXIX – I = XXX
Prove that half of 12 is 7. XII (draw a line that goes through the middle of the Roman numerals -- the top half is Vll)
And variations thereof. ;D
But back to the telepathic capabilities -- We already know that animals have some senses stronger than ours -- hearing, smell, night vision, among others. And there are any number of anecdotal stories illustrating each of them. Just today, an S&R person was at the clinic and told of her dog's advanced training in locating someone who is underwater.
So, yes, I also think it's possible to pick up on finer signals that what the five senses detect. It's also possible that some of it may actually be detectable by the five senses; but for most of us only the coarser signals are strong enough for us to recognize. Some kind of threshold of stimulation principle, maybe.

. . .and what about blind people who develop their other senses to the place where they seem to be super-sensing.
I saw a Japanese film once about a Samurai who became blind (supposed to be a true story). He trained himself with a master swordsman (a Sensi) to use his other senses to fight.
In the story another Samurai, and evil man, gravely insulted his wife. The evil Samurai was trying to shame him into committing Kempo (suicide) to erase the shame, since he couldn't do what other men would do in feudal Japan, call out the one who gave the insult and kill him.
Well, the blind Samurai did call out the evil Samurai and challenged him. The evil Samurai went to meet the blind Samurai at the appointed time and place for the duel. He assumed he could kill a blind man easily. You can guess how the story ended.
The time of the duel was at night and the blind Samurai had trained his other senses up to the place that he had the advantage in the darkness. He won the duel, avenged his family's honor and lived happily ever after. Well as happily as the Samurai tales ever went, which wasn't very much.
So, why did I bring this up? It seemed relevant. One thing I learned out of it is the hopelessness of those who don't have any hope in Jesus. The culture of death of the unbelieving world is a horrible thing.

I like this idea a lot. It reminds me of something I saw on teletext recently. There was a 19 year-old man who had epileptic fits since the age of 10, at least one per week. But his cat was able to sense them coming and would position herself between Nathan and his mother (his fulltime carer) and meouw very loudly every time a seizure threatened. This gave his Mom time to get Nathan to a chair, so he would not hurt himself. One time his fit got so bad, he turned blue. The cat then jumped on his chest and started licking his lips, causing him to breathe again. There is a connection between feline and man there. So your idea does seem feasible. But if the cat gets sentience, what other function will he/she fulfil or expect to fulfil on the ship? Will there be a rebel cat, who could lead the ship into great danger, or negatively influence the mind of the pilot or others? Yes, I wonder, too, what my cat is thinking. She has very piercing green eyes, sometimes they remind me of lasers. I'm also pretty sure she's trying telepathy on me, particularly when she's angling for an extra portion of food. Cat lovers, unite!

Beings of Light we are.
The longer I live the more I am convinced that we are spiritual beings (eternal spiritual beings; that's why our lives can be hid with Christ in God- present tense).
This physical is real but not dominant. It is a manifestation of our spiritual reality.
Metaphysics anyone?

I think the Bible makes it quite clear that this earthly life is only very brief. Far more important is the eternal life spent in either heaven or hell. We are certainly spiritual beings, perhaps this is why almost every person I know is looking for something else in their lives besides the physical reality. They try to find it in the occult, new age, buddhism,Islam, etc etc. Just look at the prevalence of astrology. People are looking for a Voice beyond the ones they hear every day. There is an emptiness in people's hearts which they desperately try to fill. I think, Christian Sci-Fi can be used by God to point these searching souls towards the One True Voice.
