Hey, Anomalians!
Wanted to give y'all an update.
At the first of the year, Port Yonder Press added me to the roster of consulting editors (plus occasional illustrator). It's an interesting challenge to look at writings (not only fiction — helping edit a literary non-fiction work, too) from an editor aspect. It shifts the focus from simply writing the best story I can to examining/editing a story per a particular set of publisher preferences and helping get it publication-ready according to their unique standards. I always knew those preferences existed, that there were publishers that preferred literary styles as opposed to, say, the more non-stop action oriented publishers (such as Baen).
Considering I'd never heard of PYP before last fall, I can't help but think God's hand is in this. Going from the speedy writing of a short story (I actually have 3 stories and an illustration in their upcoming elf anthology) to being asked to be on an editorial staff in such a short time just seems to stretch the coincidence explanation too far.
And then there's TC2 — I've been doing all their covers except for the first issue as well as writing stories. I'm looking forward to an announcement as to when their anthology will be released through MLP (spring? fall? — haven't heard yet). God is on the move there, too — the readership is growing. I get the impression more folks are realizing that SFF from a Christian worldview has an edge and isn't totally evangelistic or sappy. Good! I've long believed we as authors should make our stand in excellent writing for God regardless of our genre or literary preference.
My workload has trebled and I've started some scenes for a novel sequel to one of the elf stories (Tools of the Trade) as well. Working on the Kamanthian novels, too. Some projects are going slower than I would like; but I'm juggling my job, house repairs, and writing/editing/illustrating as best I can. Health and minor injury issues haven't helped; but I think when God tosses a challenge bundle to us, He does it to show His glory, grace, and sufficiency even in the trenches of life.
(And now, back to work.)
;D
