birdnerdQuilting? It's their weapon of choice! When they stick themselves with their needles the little drops of blood fall onto the quilt, and the quilt is infused with special powers. Of course, there are evil elmish who deliberately stick themselves with needles. Actually, they deliberately teach their little children bad needlework techniques just to draw blood for the special powers. Then they sell the quilts to evil sorcerers who.... I'd go on, but it is too horrible to tell.

Lol...this thread has taken quite the turn.
I hear the trouble is, when you get an Elmish quilt, there's no way to know if you've gotten a good one or an evil one, unless you're skilled in interpreting the ancient hex signs the good and evil cultures stitched into their designs as messages to one another...and runes of great power...
Out of hand, I tell you.

Yes, this has taken quite a turn. Back on track.
Lord, You give us a joyful heart. Let us praise You in all that we do and say. Grant that as writers bring their work to be read at ACFW Genesis, it be judged with the most helpful critique, so that ever after it may give glory to Your Name. Amen.

Teskas and Becky ROFL. Oh man... sounds like a good premise, actually. Maybe we oughta take a shot at that...

Would these be horse and buggy Elmish or would they be allowed to drive cars? Do they have electricity to their houses or barns, and what about sewing machines? Are they one, two or three work of grace Elmish? The possibilities are endless . . . I'll mention the ACFW people to the Lord, but I fear it might be like praying that dogs learn how to climb trees. But, good writing should still be good writing, Lord grant that their critiques be helpful. SGD dave

SGD dave Lol...let's hope the whole thing won't require that profound a miracle, but perhaps just a little divine management. And as for cars vs. horses and buggies, I think buggies are a requirement of this prairie fantasy hybrid subgenre, personally.

I vote for Pegasi, telepathic pegasi to be exact or at least talking. Now are the elmish a fallen race or not? If not they wouldn't have lost the facility of telepathy (I'm convinced that's how we communicated originally until Adam "closed his mind" to God in order to sin.) Okay, Okay; you knew I was weird but that's how I wrote it in my Guardianship universe vision of Eden and the fall. So I definitely vote for Pegasi . . . However, if we're going that far then why settle for buggies, why not winged chariots, semi-sentient winged chariots. ;D (I mean this is Spec Fic and we are off the edge of the map [well I am anyway]) I wonder if this might turn into the next collaborative story idea? Write on Sibs. SGD dave PS Now how did we get from the ACFW contest and judges to old order Elmish elves flying around in chariots pulled by telepathic Pegasi?? dsw

... because some of us, okay, most of us, are extremely divergent thinkers.

I would think the Elmish would shun the use of most magic, considering it to be too worldly. Perhaps they posses subtle, wholesome magics, wrought into their meticulously-crafted goods. Their foods might be amazingly nourishing and invigorating; their fabrics might have protective or stealthy properties; their unaccompanied singing might bestow a psychological connection to the fathers of the Elmish community, etc. The "mainstream" elves are probably the ones shooting fireballs and thunderbolts.

How would they defend themselves against evil zombie orcs led by an ancient demon?
