I read in the USAToday today (ermm...ha!) that scientists expect feral Burmese pythons to become more and more populous in the southern U.S. due to global warming. We've always considered rising sea level and ice ages and such to be threats of global warming. I've never considered that animal populations and migrations would be affected also. Don't know why; just slipped my mind I guess.
What if there were so many snakes (without the airplane!) that they just overwhelmed society and ... even began to develop intelligence and thoughts of ruling the humans?? A modern-day, spec-fic telling of the St. Patrick legend maybe?
OK, so I'm stretching a bit for even a B movie plot line. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Definitely go for it. Especially if you were thinking of making it slightly comic.
And now a word from the Ew Corner. When I lived in Florida we would sometimes hear of giant snakes that had gotten dumped (as unwanted pets) into the Everglades. I saw a photo of I guess a Burmese python that had died when it tried to swallow a 10-foot-long alligator. It was like the alligator had this snake skin sock over its snout and front legs. It was completely disgusting.
So, you know, do that.

I rather liked the St. Patrick retelling idea. I've always been curious about the "serpents" that he drove out of Ireland, especially after reading Bill Cooper's book AFTER THE FLOOD (which has a fascinating section on dinosaurs and Beowulf).
On the serious side, the serpent mythos is one that would be a fascinating one to study. I highly recommend reading Michael S. Heiser's book, THE FACADE, for a "make-you-think" alternative interpretation to certain scriptures.

The article said that's how the snakes got here in the first place. They then developed "breeding colonies."
The snake-sock on an alligator reminds me of a trap/puzzle on LucasArts' The Curse of Monkey Island. Great visual gag!
Interesting note of addendum: Searched for The Facade at Amazon and found a whole list of books with "Nephilim" in the title. I may have to send Elevator Boy over there!
