I had an interesting novel idea and I wanted to know if you guys think it is actually good or it was a bad idea. The basic premise is that there is a perfect city filled with perfect people and everyone is bored because there is no uncertainties. So they take various characters from different genre realms and forces them into a tournament where the last one surviving wins. The thing that makes it so interesting is the interaction between characters of different genres and the fact that there is no clear protagonist. The reader can "route" for whichever competitor they like the most. If you guys want I can post the competitors themselves. But the real question is do you like the idea?

I don't know. It sounds a bit too much like "The Hunger Games." But it could still be interesting.

Could be interesting. The system is your antagonist. That could play out in several interesting ways.

Thanks for the replays, and it is not like The Hunger Games at all though my description may have made them sound similar. My Book has characters from many different genres. Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Comic Books, Horror, Anime.

Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Comic Books, Horror, Anime. Oh ok. You're right, the description makes it sound similar to The Hunger Games. And I just read the first book in that trilogy so that's probably why it struck me that way. That said, having characters from fantasy, sci-fi, anime, etc as the fighters could be very interesting. You might run into copyright issues though if you use existing characters that are owned by someone else. Other than that, I think the premise is worth trying out! It has a lot of possibilities. LOL I just imagined Hatsune Miku (an anime-style character from the Japanese music synthesizer program Vocaloid) in your arena. All she can do is sing and dance though, so she wouldn't be much fun in a battle situation. (Though I guess she could do something like what the Songstress dress sphere role can do in Final Fantasy X-2).

Thanks for the interest, the 8 competitors by the way (all completely made up by me) are:
Selena: A Witch from Modern Fantasy who can control ice
Skullcracker: A Zombie who can is suprsingly inteligent and is altruistic towards his dumber kinsmen
Sidekick: A Martial Artist from a Golden-Age comic book universe who has the power of every sidekick.
Seer: A Wizard from a High Fantasy Universe who can see the future (sometimes) and can read minds
Scourge: A Mutant from a sci-fi future, he is an extremeist and a terrorist against the oppresive rule of the militiant council and has been genetically made to fight them
Dante Tobin: A Vampire who is a commander in the army and uses his position to go on night raids to get the blood he needs
Arietta: A superheroin who gets her powers from the Roman God Apollo and uses magical music as her power
Yoshiro Starsword: An Anime styled Swordsman in a Space Opera. He is trying to stop his nemesis from unleasing an intergalactic army of Space Demons

I think the idea has been done in games before (I'm thinking Super Mario Smash Brothers and Marvel vs. Capcom as examples). I can't think of anything like this in written format though. I'd love to read it!
