This is kind of to go along with my recent "Too Cheesy?" wherethemapends.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=genrefantasy&action=display&thread=1930 thread. I wanted to explain things in a little more detail, but didn't want people to have to dig for it in that post.
So in my world setting, which is several years in the future of our own timeline, a scientist, Mark Gath, was working on a project called War Machine, where his job was to combine human intelligence with animal strength, speed, and the like. At some point, the War Machine Project was canceled, and Gath felt his life and that of his work was in danger. Having been suspicious of this early on, he had set up an escape plan; A rocket that would carry himself, his workers, equipment and experiments to a smaller planet very similar to earth.
Thus my races were not created by magic, but by science. There were four "stages" of experiments until Gath succeeded in getting the blend that he wanted with the fourth set.
Here is a very brief description of the sets, called Peri (experiments, the name was given to them by someone else).
Humana- "Human Animal" the name has more from the human side that the animal
Considered the “Perfected” experiments by Mark Gath, Humana are mostly human in appearance. They have special skills unique to the animal they were spliced with. Some physical traits are pointy ears, sharp teeth, spots or stripes. Mostly minor alterations.
Huimal- "Human Animal" but the name has more from the animal side than human (Hu-human, imal- animal)
Called Halfbloods, the Huimal are half human and half animal in appearance. They can appear as humans or Humana with actual animal parts (wings, tail, claws, etc.). They are not completely animalistic in appearance. Most pass for Humana.
Animan- "Animal Man"
Considered the “freaks” of the Peri by Gath, the Animan are mostly animalistic in appearance. They are larger than the Humans, Humana and the Huimal in size. Over half of the Animan’s body are animal parts.
Albeana (Al bay nay)- "All Beast"
The first experiments by Mark Gath, Albeana are completely animalistic in appearance. Considered animals with human intelligence and skills, Gath considered them failures. They are the oldest of the Peri.
In the first story, all of the characters (save for two of the party members and the enemy) are Humana. The Huimal, Animan and Albeana live in other regions, and have basically been forgotten. They will be met in the second and third stories. Most of the people living in the main story locations do not know the history of Mark Gath and his experiments.
The way I have it set up right now, is that during part of their history, when Gath was still alive, some of the experiments revolted and most of them escaped or fled. The Albeana, who lived on another island, came across to the main land to help the Peri adjust to their new world. With these having known of Earth and what Gath was doing, it is possible that they are the ones who gave the races their names, wanting them to perhaps remember in part what they were animal-wise as well as human.
So that's what I have. Well, I have more, but that would be a lot of typing. I will, however, add the list of animals that Gath used in his experiments, and thus the ones now found on the planet. Included is the reason Gath chose these animals.
These names pertain the Humana only.
The Klans
Lynxen- Lynx- "tireless walkers" Gath planned to use them similar to the Navy seals.
Jaguarin- Jaguar- Tropical- Gath planned to use them in rainforest like areas
Tigerin- Tigers- purely used for their strength
Lionine- Lions- puredly usded for their strength, also their ability to work as a pride
Cheetahrin- Cheetah- speed- used in gorilla fighting
Leoporen- Snow lepards- cold weather invironments
Races of Caninea
*Wolven
Created from the DNA of wolves and blended with humans.
They are the "perfected" canine counterpart of Gath's feline experiments. Therefore, the Wolven are the Humana of the canine Peri.
*Domeseon
Created from the DNA of German Shepard and Rottweiler and blended with humans, in hopes to find a more agreeable specimen.
They are also part of the Humana Peri.
*Domven
The offspring of a Wolven/Domeseon pairing.
Though not created by Gath, they are part of the Humana Peri.
The Reptilin
*Gath could never get them past the third stage, and so there are no Humana Reptilin.
*Created for special ops into deserts, rainforests, marshes and swamps
*were not created until after Gath left Earth.
*Species used to create the Reptilin, and what they became known as:
Crocs-
Alligators-
Cobras-
Asps-
Komodo dragons-
*Still need to come up with these names. Suggestions?
So there you have it! I hope it's not too confusing. If it is, let me know. It's mostly straightened out in my head, but I've lived with this info for nigh on 8 years now. ;D I look forward to reading your thoughts!
And yes, that was the brief version!
