Woohoo! It's our first collaborative story project. We rule.
For our first story we're going to be writing about the collision of two worlds and two genres.
I've always loved the movie Krull, in which sword-toting fantasy characters (knights, wizards, etc.) have to fight off an invasion by laser-wielding aliens in futuristic starships. How cool is that?
So that's the idea we're going to be exploring in this, our inaugural collaborative fiction project. Fantasy vs. SF.
Here's the premise:
A medieval fantasy world--with its own problems, histories, cultures, and cast of characters--is suddenly invaded by technologically advanced beings from space--who themselves have their own problems, histories, cultures, and cast of characters.
In Krull, the fantasy people were obviously the good guys and the futuristic aliens were pure evil bad guys. But I'd like our story to be more textured than that. Perhaps both the fantasy and the SF universes have both heroes and villains. Perhaps all sides think they're the good guys. Perhaps there's room for some unexpected alliances, romances, and betrayals.
Oh, and did you notice that I didn't specify whether either, both, or neither world has human characters?
Okay, that's all I'm going to give you. The rest we'll determine together in the various areas of this forum.
Let's have fun!
Jeff
