Hey friends...would you mind offering up a prayer or two on my behalf if you have a chance? There is an opening at my workplace for a new position coming up, that if I want to apply for it, I would need to have my "stuff" in by the end of the week. It would be in the marketing department of the company, in the area of helping analyze and optimize the company's web marketing campaigns.
I know very little about the technical side of the job, but the people hiring the position want to do so internally if they can, and they are fully prepared to train whoever they pull into the position. It's a very scary move to think about taking, but it would be a significant improvement to my lifestyle (it would move me to a regular 9-5 work day instead of a 10:30 -7 shift) and it would involve better pay, as well as being more interesting and challenging than answering phones and taking orders like I am now.
Anyway, if you could pray the Lord's will would be clear to me on this, and any other better prayers you can think of, that would be great.
Thanks a bundle!

Praying, Becky.
Perhaps the best way to know whether this is in God's will for you would be to go ahead and apply, then trust Him to open the door if that's where He wants you or close it if He doesn't want you in that position.

Becky, I agree with Metalikhan. Apply with the confidence that if the Lord doesn't want you there you won't get the job. Will be praying He opens the right doors for you.

Thanks so much for the prayers, friends. I did indeed submit my materials, and we'll see what happens from here. Gotta let God drive the car, for sure.

Little update: word on the inside tells me I should be interviewing for the position on Tuesday sometime, so I imagine there will be an email to that end when I arrive at work today. Nothing like walking out of your department to interview in another. That has me feeling a little sick to my stomach, which I know is stupid, but is the case nonetheless. I understand I'm up against a handful of other candidates with an equal lack of real experience in Search Engine Marketing, so hopefully I can display a superior level of teachability and aptitude.

Thanks so much, those of you who prayed over this for me...here's how it all shook out.
I interviewed for the job, and although I was told I had an awesome interview and they were very impressed with my submission materials for the job, they felt it would be better to put more of a analytical/bottom-line person in the position than a creative type like me. Basically, they said they felt there were places within the company that they could see me as a better fit down the line--places that don't necessarily exist yet.
Anyway, so what they have done is decided I will be using some of my work day to help write press releases and social media content in addition to my currect customer service duties. It's not a change in shift or pay, but will hopefully will be a bridge to something else within the company later.
It's sort of a *shrug* moment. I am glad I will be able to spend at least a few hours a week writing for work, but all in all, not much in the way of substantial change for now.

That works. A change-within-company for me came about once when someone figured out I could write, so they put me in charge of a smallish tech writing gig and when that worked, it expanded considerably.
This could play out very well for you.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, birdnerd. I know you're right--that if I can catch the right people's attention that this could be a platform to growth in another direction. Patience is the key--which is hard for me to come by right now in working a swing shift where I only see my kiddoes for about 45 minutes a day, total. I keep reminding myself, it's a season, not an age, and God knows what's going on.

Bummer, Becky I know what it feels like to not see your kids. It's definitely a season, but still hard. Will continue to pray for you.
