Hello fellow writers! It's been awhile, but I am finally getting back into the swing of things for the most part. Normal is only a setting on a dryer anyways. You'll have to forgive me, but I think the caffeine is still running high. ;D During my little hiatus, I had done some thinking and reading (thanks to all yall's wonderful suggestions!) and all of sudden at 3am in morning a brilliant idea hit me. Could be God, could be sleep deprivation, only time will tell. (I have an almost three year old and a ten month old.) I've been wanting to become more involved with my writer's group, but have been unable due to a variety of reasons, circumstances, etc. so then it hits me, do it online! In January 2012 I will be starting a kind of study group for writers...like a Bible study, but we'll be studying the art, craft and business of writing through writer help books...and I wanted to to invite yall. I have yet to pick a book. I have a few in mind and I am thinking of maybe doing a poll to determine which one we'll read and discuss. If any of yous are interested, let me know. Happy writing! j2 jlmbewe.wordpress.com/yo-ho-a-writers-life-for-me/

Hey, that sounds awesome. I have a 4 year old, a 2 year old, and a 6 month old, so my writing time is laughably small. But I cram some in here and there. I'm hoping to get that Self Editing book for Christmas, if you want to start there! :-)

And "Self-Editing for Fiction Writers" is really good.

I noticed you had a twitter button, but couldn't find you on twitter. That's a good way to keep the group updated on what's happening with the study group.

Thanks Tris, I hadn't thought about that. I had told myself I wasn't going to do Twitter, but I might have to check into it. Especially, since I would have a purpose...hmmm... Yea for the interest! and yes, Self-Editing for Fiction Writers is a great place to start. I am also considering: The Art of War for Writers: fiction writing strategies, tactics, & exercises; & Writing Fiction for Dummies...
I love the "The writer who observes the battlefield before entering the fray will be better equipped to plan strategy and tactics." taken from The Art of War for Writers.
We shall see where the interest lies :-) But to be sure, Self-Editing is on the horizon.
Thanks for yalls interest!

Hello!
I just wanted to stop by and let you know what book we will start with in January. There are so many good books out there on the art, craft and business of writing. I almost would like to go back and forth between them to highlight the best parts and bring them altogether as we learn through out the year. But we probably need one to use as a guide/stepping stone. So without further ado...
Drum roll please......
The Art of War for Fiction Writers fiction writing strategies, tactics, and exercises by James Scott Bell
Thanks!
Hope yall have a great Christmas!

I'll see about picking it up come January. I have a nice bit of Swagbucks credit sitting on Amazon, and I'm using it pretty much for Kindle books. Make sure you drop a line in here as a reminder!

Yea for the interest! Welcome aboard celesta. Kessie: Let's do this thing! (in the voice of the dude from ratatouille). the first week of January I will do an introduction type thingy and then start chapter one the following week that way that will give people some time to get their books and recoup from celebrating the New Year's. For the book club, we won't "meet" until the last week of the month so we've got time for everyone to get their books read... I am excited about this. yea! I'll post something in the online book club thread as well. We shall see how it all works out.
