Greetings, all, from the Great White North of Canada. Since my 2014 retirement from the Canada Post Corporation, I have been embarking upon 30-mile, 2-hour-plus late-night bicycle rides into the rural environs surrounding London, Ontario, where I live. I love listening to audiobooks by authors who are Christians. I have just completed Stephen Lawhead's epic 'Bright Empires' series, as (brilliantly) narrated by Simon Bubb. And I gotta tell y'all, I was on the 'edge of my seat' (pun intended) during each and every bike ride. On many an occasion, Lawhead's cliffhanger chapter endings were so riveting, I ended up pedalling 35 miles, even 40 miles, by the time I had returned home! Because the storytelling action shifts back & forth through time and space, and is NOT written in chronological sequence, not only was my mind engaged, but my MEMORY as well. So powerful were the characters and their respective interrelated story arcs, I'm STILL pondering them..... Over a week after winding down 'The Fatal Tree,' Book 5 in the series. The 'Bright Empire' series is heartachingly good. It is steeped with Biblical truths that got under my defences and penetrated into my innermost core, in a manner that no amount of pulpit-pounding ever could. Contemplatively, PhiL >^•_•^<
