I can think of one time they eat stew in my works. The party (a traveling group of five or more heroes) were being hosted by a village they had just rescued. I can think of several other meals, but not a single one has mentioned stew.
I actually had a problem of coneys being eaten all the time. Whenever they needed to eat, Granish would just go hunt some coneys and someone (Sema, Howard, etc) would roast them. I even made a joke out of it. Granish goes hunting and refuses to catch any coneys. He comes back with geese or duck.

I can't think of any of my characters eating stew. MREs or MRE equivalents, yes. But never stew.It takes to long to cook, and takes a fire and a pot.

LOL, this is awesome! In my original idea for my current WIP (which is SF not Fantasy) my main character's mother's cook book is actually an encoded log book so she can take it though security checkbooks with her luggage and not get busted with top secret information. I looked up any foods I could with odd names and retrofitted them to my story. Like Bannock Rolls (not sure of spelling). After all a couple of thousand years into the future I imagine most of the food would be pre-packaged nutrition bars, so a real cook book would be something pretty rare and valuable lol. I may have to throw in a stew just for fun now

I'm with Dave on this, in that, it was poor people food and when I started out writing my fantasy trilogy, I put stew in there, because I wanted the story to be realistic as well. But I've got different cultures eating different things, but perhaps I need to rethink the stew just a little.
