I enjoyed Zahn's work. It was his trilogy that first introduced me to the Star Wars series. That, and he created my favorite Star Wars character, Mara Jade Fluke, I don't believe he is a catholic. I knew him back when I lived in Oregon and he and his wife attended the church south of town (definitely not a catholic church). But maybe back in the day? As far as good science fiction, I would also recommend Kerry Nietz's A Star Curiously Singing. I have not read the rest in the series yet, but that first one was great. I know Marcher Lord has also published other science fiction works including Word Reclaimed by Steve Rzasa (who just won a Carol Award for his book Broken Sight (which I believe is also science fiction), or just click on the science fiction tab on the Marcher Lord site to see all it has. I think Splashdown also has some science fiction novels. So you might want to check them out too

Kerry here: I appreciate the recommendations everyone made for my books. Many thanks!
As you might suspect, I'm a big sci-fi fan myself. I really enjoyed Kirk Outerbridge's two Marcher Lord novels, and Steve's Rzasa Word duology. (Haven't read his last two yet, but they're certainly on my list.) I also liked PA Baines Alpha Redemption, and Grace Bridges's Space Pilgrims was fun too. I'm sure there are tons I'm missing--oh, Oxygen/Fifth Man are entertaining too--but I review everything I read. So just look for my list on goodreads or shelfari or amazon. (There's lots of other genres in there too. I read all over the map.)
And absolutely check out the WTME book list. There are over 600 books in there. Just filter it for sci-fi and have at it.
