(Yes, it's a Toy Story reference. But it seemed appropriate anyway. I feel like I'm an outsider, but I'm interested in making new friends.)
Yes, I'm new here. Jeff Gerke told me about this forum board this morning when I asked if he knew anywhere I could find a crit group of Christian Speculative Fiction writers. This seems like the best place to find some people! I live in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon. There are a lot of people here (arguably a lot of weird people here) but not so many who are interested in helping a new author edit a Christian Speculative Fiction novel. They're mostly like Christian Romance or Christian Historical Fiction authors around here.
My book was a topic challenge offered at a Christian Game Developer's Conference (yes I'm a game developer too) in 2011. I accepted the challenge. The story was much larger than I originally anticipated, so it's been split into two books now. It's taken me a year and two NaNoWriMo's to finish book one. I just won my second NaNoWriMo challenge on November 25th, though I still have I believe about 5000 to maybe 10,000 more words left to finish off the story. I'll finish before the end of November though I'm pretty sure. And I've got the first 20 pages of book two started already. So what I'm really looking for here is a small group of people who can help me edit the story, make sure I've got the continuity right, and well, yes, to encourage me and help me get this story into the best shape possible.
My NaNoWriMo ID is also Sparkling if you want to look me up on there.
Pleased to meet you all.
God bless you, -Sparkling

Nice to meet you! I believe there is a writing critique group associated with The Anomalous Sandbox. It's loosely related to this message board but is member only and non-searchable (to help protect copy rights). I'm not part of it but many of the members who post here are. They might have more information about it.

What is the Christian Game Developer's Conference about? Is it about Christianity in videogames, or is it a group of Christian game developers looking to improve their craft, much like this forum is for SF/F novelists? Welcome.

There's a couple of links in this [hyperlink] admirable fellow's signature that relate to the aforementioned Anomalous Sandbox.

Hi there! Welcome aboard! I don't know if you've signed up to the Sandbox yet, but here's the link: groups.yahoo.com/group/AnomSandbox/A bunch of us are finishing up Nanowrimo, so it's kind of quiet in there at the moment, but come December, I have a bunch of crits and rewrites slated. We've got some people polishing stories for the Different Dragons anthology, and those are being bounced around right now. Just keep an eye out for NewburyDave, he's the guy who admits new members. :-)

Welcome, Sparkling! I have heard good things about the Sandbox, so I would recommend you check it out if you're looking for critiques. Otherwise you might want to just hand around, make some friends, and maybe see if you hit it off with anyone who you think would make a good crit partner. I can completely sympathize with your need to solicit feedback. It's so hard to have an objective point of view on your own work.

Welcome Sparkling;
Yeah, we've created a place for people like us. It's a good crowd. Join us in the Sandbox and we'll try to treat you so many ways you're bound to like some of them. I'm glad to hear that Jeff approves or our clandestine operation.
I'm the aforementioned "fellow". (I don't know about the admirable part; but thanks for the compliment rjj7)
Use Kessie's link or the links in my address line below and it should get you there. I recommend you use the regular email option when you get to the final sign up page where you choose your email options. That allows you to use the attachment feature for you Submissions. IMHO that is the best, but others like the Files section for exchanging submissions and Critiques.
But no worries, you can change your choice after you get going .
Well met sister.
Write on

Wow there are all these replies to my thread from long ago that I never got notified were here so never knew they were existed. I need to figure out how to subscribe to threads on this board... In other news... I just learned about a contest through Amazon. I'm wondering if it's worth submitting to that contest or not. I will go investigate this Sandbox place mentioned here and see if I can find more concrete answers. Or if not, then maybe make new friends.

Thank you all for taking the time to greet me and reply to my thread. I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner, I didn't know anyone had written to me here! I still can't find how to subscribe to a thread, even though I've looked all over in the settings and everything. How does one subscribe to a thread here?
