Yes and no. I work with a computer called the AFATDS. Thats: Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data Systems . Sometimes... it can be cranky. Also, I set up my own internet biz while I'm there. It makes me a ton of cash, in pennies, and saves me money, too. It's just that customers want their internet to work for some reason. This project is just an extension of that. Plus, I wanted to have complete control over my site. Few hosts provide that for the price I want: free! Ah, and the site should be up by now. Here's a link fresh from the laundry for ya'll: 24.162.110.184 . This is temporary. I plan to get a domain name set up on the first and have an official launch date of that. Some of you might recognize the layout and design since it's wordpress. If not, just enjoy it. Keep an eye on it! I have big plans for that site! *edit* If you caught my grammatical blunder... you're good

Greetings fellow travelers and well met. Praise be to the One through which all things are possible. Mighty are the works of His hands. May He use us towards His own glory.
Time has run out, and I must soon enter the time warp. I am referring to my deployment to Iraq. Chances are, by the time you get this e-mail, I will be gone. It's been a long road. One that we've together up and will continue to travel, merely in a different place.
I know that where I go, your prayers go with me. What better support for a soldier than that? I count myself truly blessed to have such a wonderful, loving wife, supportive parents, in-laws that I can truly consider family, and an extended family that praise God for on a daily basis. Thank you! I could never have come this far, nor go as far as I will, without that support and love. I will be depending on all of you for the rough road ahead.
As I stated before, this time I will be in the northern area of Iraq butted up against the city of Mosul. Mosul is the second largest city in Iraq, so this time we won't have to deal with as many small town terrorists. Oddly enough, they tend to be more effective in many ways. Instead we'll have to deal with big name groups that you see on the news making so much noise and strife.
As for my job, it won't be all that dissimilar to the last time. I'll be answering radios and, more than likely, running my little internet enterprise. This time I plan to run it for profit. After all, I have a family to think about this time. Know that I have no plans to go outside the wire. There have to be support personnel on the base, and that will be me. I've paid my dues both in blood and sweat. I've earned that patch on my shoulder, now it's time to let others earn theirs.
My next e-mail/blog post will come from Mosul, so expect a delay. That e-mail will contain my mailing address. Feel free to send any unwanted food-stuffs or reading materials my way. Even if I don't, it will get used/eaten.
Take care my friends and family. I need you, each and every one, to remain safe and sound. Every soldier needs to know that his family is safe. If you're getting this, it definitely includes you.
God speed, God bless -- Glyn

Greetings and well met!
I apologize, first of all, to everyone for the delay in this e-mail. My shift changed over and over again when I first got to Iraq and was I unable to get here to write, so: here I am. Next thing should be obvious: I'm alive and in more or less sound mind and body. Would those of you who know please stop laughing at the mind part?
Our living conditions, while not pristine, are better than when we first got here. We were crammed into every nook and cranny since the previous unit didn't want to move out of their rooms for us to move in. We were stuffed into what is now offices and what will soon be the Battery level Morale, Welfare, and Recreation. At long last, I'm now in a room shared by only five guys. Sadly, I can't share a picture since DoD doesn't allow thumb drives to be plugged into their computers, including this one, and I don't have personal internet yet. I will, though. Oh yes, as soon as my dish gets here I'll be up and able to post pictures and everything.
My job is, *gasp*, answering radios on the exact same shift I had last time. Amazing isn't it? The more things change the more they are the same, right? All I do is answer radios and make little jaunts around the FOB, Forward Operating Base. Do not, btw, ask me what I am forward of... but that's what this place is called: FOB Diamondback.
The FOB itself is somewhat routine: A PX, chapel, MWR, two Gyms, one DiFac(Dinning Facility), etc. Butted up against it the FOB Marez which has all the same things but the PX is smaller, the DiFac is bigger, and it has a Burger King and a Pizza Inn. Both sides are covered in mud right now.
If you would like my address, please IM me or send me an e-mail. My actual e-mail addy is right next to this text under my Avatar.(This portion changed from the e-mail for those of you who are wondering)
In closing, I praise God for all of you, most especially my beautiful wife, Jamie, for all that she has done for me. Without her, and you, I wouldn't be possible. Simple as that. I would not be the person that I am now.
God bless you all -- Glyn

DiFac? Dining Facility? What happened to good old Mess Hall?
Heaven help us, bureaucratic bull-speak has taken over the military.
Good to hear from you, Glyn. You take care out there.

Taken over? Oh no, Teskas, we started it all. The acronym had to have started with someone in the Army trying to tell his buddy where Post Exchange (PX) was while trying not to stutter!
Another quick note: my job is, as last time, answering radios. I can't remember if I've said that or not. So far, things don't seem too bad here, nor too good.
Thanks, Guys! For everything -- CS

Actually, I have the 'net set up where I work, far away from stray bullets and explosions(I hope!). I won't have my Satellite dish in till February due to financial reasons. As for Jamie, she's doing as well as can be expected. Actually, she just got the Volunteer of the quarter award from my Division. Hopefully I'll have some pictures to uplink before too long, but we'll see. The one member of her family there was trying to juggle a baby and a camera, so she didn't get any good shots, but the Army photographers should have gotten some good ones. Supposedly they should be on the 1st Cav website soon.
