Here's an interesting story that could add an interesting twist to any new future story. Scientists have begun altering yeast and E. coli to excrete oil that can be used in vehicles. Read the Article

For a plot I've been working on, I've been trying to find a plausible way of explaining how 100 years in the future, people won't be drilling for oil in the Middle East.
At $50 a barrel, and a negative carbon footprint, this will do nicely, thank you.

Sweet! And I've been looking for a way to explain why my story set 100 years in the future still have cars with Internal Combustion Engines. (I hate electric cars ><)

And the real twist is when these little bugs start mutating and taking over the world, turning humans into giant oil factories....
Oh, wait. Wrong movie.
Seriously, though, this is ironic timing. One of the writers in my group just finished a novel about a formula for making oil.
