I generally hate asking for prayer involving me, but I'm fighting something that has my lymph nodes all swollen up and kept me up most of the night as I tried to find a comfortable position only to fall asleep and roll over onto one of the masses of nodes and wake up.

I haven't gotten a decent night's sleep in a month or more, myself. I find myself settling for the least uncomfortable position, having given up on finding a comfortable one.
As for the swollen lymph notes, I was advised to drink lots of fluids, but the thing that helped me more than anything was a heating pad. I'm not sure why, but it really took the pain level down. My wife also suggests alternating cold packs (to reduce swelling) and heating pads (to increase blood flow) every 20 minutes or so untill the pain level goes down.

Scintor's wife is right -- alternating hot and cold packs helps relieve pain and inflammation. I've been in a 20 plus year battle with more than one arthritis as well as migraines; and thermal shock is one of my first weapons against a flare-up. You and Scintor have been having a rough time. My heart goes out to folks fighting physical pain. Just remember, God gives us the grace to endure it, to fight it. You're both in my prayers.

It's not so much pain as a dull ache, but I can't sleep with the TV or light on either unless I'm just ready to crash. The doctor thinks it may either be strep that just hasn't reached my throat yet, since I have no sore throat, or I'm the first person he's seen with mono that was restless instead of debilitating fatigued. He gave me antibiotics for strep. Normally I wouldn't take such stuff, but it's been about a week no improvement. I'm wanting my life back. NyQuil is at least letting me sleep alright. Though as with anything that stops a cough, I make a point to lay face down to try and prevent sinus drainage. Hopefully the anti-biotics and vitamins help accelerate this.

My condolences to all of you who are suffering at this time, whatever your ailments. Now that cold/flu season is here, let me take this opportunity to highly recommend Zicam. Take it at the very first sign of symptoms. It really works! If you catch the symptoms early enough, you can avoid the cold altogether. It's basically just a good dose of zinc that gets absorbed right into the nose or mouth tissues (depending on whether you use the swabs or the tablets). It might be a little pricey, but if it helps you avoid that 10-day miserable cold/flu, it's worth it. No, I'm not getting paid for this advertisement.

I have zinc tablets. Well, technically they're lozenges, but it's a pretty good dose of zinc. I take that along with echinacea, a 1000 milligram Vitamin C tablet, and my daily multi-vitamin. I think it's what's kept this from being as nasty as it could have been, but it still was taking longer than is comfortable when I ended up only working 9 hours instead of 26 this week.

Pain, ache -- it's just a matter of degree when you feel awful.
One thing my husband and I do when the sinus congestion is bad is the saline flush. Boiled or distilled water (we don't want to add a sinus infection on top of the cold) and plain salt, not iodized. We have to be pretty desperate before we resort to the cayenne flush -- a little like snorting a liquid flamethrower -- but it works. We usually follow a sinus flush with colloidal silver. Our health food store carries one that has a nasal atomizer. We rely on vitamins and herbs more than prescriptions whenever possible; too many of the pharmaceuticals spook me. The only caveat with the natural/alternative medicines is to research what you use.

Hi, Spokane Flyboy. I was sorry to read you were under the weather. I'm into low-tech medication wherever possible. You might try cutting back your sugar intake to zero for a little while--in tea, coffee, sugary breakfast cereals, breads, processed foods. Keep your teeth especially clean. Raise your fiber intake with complex carbs, dried figs and plums, and raw nuts. Try gargling, and using a nasal spray, with a weak solution (+/- 3%) of hydrogen peroxide, or boil up fresh beet root in a little water and use the liquor as a nasal spray. Both are messy, but I've found they are a cheap and effective alternative to pharmacology. If it doesn't clear up in ten days, see a doctor. It might be something more serious. (Yeah, I know you're young, but does the bug know that?)

I saw the doctor Friday and he gave me Azithromycin as he suspects it to be strep throat. It was pretty much a toss up between strep and mono, but I lack the sore throat of strep, and the debilitating fatigue of mono.

At this point, it seems strep was on the money as my throat got pretty bad even while on the anti-biotic. I'm now on a new, more aggressive one.
