I have two prayer requests of my own, plus a whole page of them. In order for my request to make sense, you need to know something about me. I am a soldier in the US Army currently deployed to LSA Anaconda, Iraq. Just look for Balad on Google Earth, we're south east of there. My request is that God would continue the un-natural quiet we have felt this month. I can not go into details or even explain what I mean exactly, but it doesn't change the fact: It's almost too quiet. The other concerns my Internet service. When we got extended, I asked God for the Internet. After some conversing between us, He agreed. Now, I hate paying for things when I can get it free, and legal. So I bought a satellite dish from someone else and farmed out my net for the payments. That said, here's the request(After some more info). Someone decided to play a little joke on me: they knocked my dish off track. If you've ever aligned a satellite dish, you know how hard it can be. It took me 45 minutes to fix. Please pray for God's love, truth, and justice to enter this person's life. If your prayer list needs some more names, check out www.gglynshull.com/pr.aspx for a whole list full. Thank you all, and God Bless--CS

Man, CS, I had no idea you were active and deployed.
You're definitely in my prayers now! As is the person who whacked your dish.
Let us know what you can about your situation and daily activities. Got photos we can see?

CS, my prayers are with you man. I've seen about ten guys come home in boxes, one who went to my high school. (BTW I'm in Canada and we lost six guys to an IED a few days ago). Those hit me hard because I plan on joining and one of teachers who taught that guy said "I don't want to see your face in the paper ten years from now, so stay safe."
That touched me and my prayers go out to every soldier (be it squid or jarhead, marine or flyboy) serving their country proudly.
Stay safe, and come home to us mate. God watches over you and no matter what trust in him with all your heart.

Thank you. Fortunately for me, my job doesn't require me to go into dangerous territory, like last time. Unfortunately, I can't talk about it. They've got these annoying red stickers all over the place at work.
What's worse about being here, though, is the lack of governmental support. When your own government is screaming that your wasting your time...it's hard to keep motivated. The thing is, we ARE here for a reason. Most Christians come back from here with a renewed faith, restored vision, and a willingness to follow that is unbelieveable. God is here.
We're here for strategic reasons too. Just look at all the terrorist supporting countries that surround Iraq. Wow, almost every one of them surrounding this one centrally located, convenient country. Hmmm... And lookat what it has bought us: quiet. When was the last terrorsit attack on the US? Yeah, that long ago. France, Germany, the UK, and Spain have all been hit, but not us. (Or Canda, I think). Amazing.
Okay, rambling done. Thanks again! --CS

UPDATE! So my ISP, Shull On-Line (SOL) as it were., has finally filled it's eighth and final slots. Now I can make a little bit of profit off of it. Not a lot, but profit wasn't why I started this enterprise, it's just a bonus.
Plus, the quiet I mentioned earlier was broken only briefly the other day. Really, it was a pathetic thing, as though the Iraqis just wanted us to know that they're okay. How sweet.
Finally, right after this I'm updating my site's Weekly Digest and Prayer Request Pages. I update once a week, BTW. Please add these new items to your prayer list.
In His name--CS

Okay...that peace I mentioned? It went bye bye yesterday. I have no idea if that will continue or what, please pray for me and the residents of LSA Anaconda.

Well, we were settled into a good routine until one of my buddies had to go on emergency leave. I have a slew of prayer requests that stem from that.
Kinere went on leave because a family member passed away. I pray for peace and comfort to him and his family. I also pray that his trip there and back will/would be quick and trouble free.
Now, the 25th ID commander has ordered that every soldier WILL have two days off a month. Period. This was great at first because we could go without someone and still run, more or less. Now that Kinere's on leave, we have to go to twelve hour shifts in order for this day off thing to happen. Mind you, it's only the days around our days off that we work 12's, but still.
Even that wouldn't be a problem, if it weren't for this one guy. You see, without a unanimous vote to stop days off, we can't do it. Normally, we work 8 hour days. That's fine. 16hrs off is plenty when you are deployed, believe me. This one guy wants to have his day of, so we're stuck with it. Now my sleep schedule is messed up because I had to cover down on the night shift last night and th day shift tomorrow. So what if there's a day off in between, I'm not really enjoying it. Plus, to me anyway, it's not a day off if I work the exact number of hours with or without the. No, that's just dumb.
Okay...I had to rant and rave for a minute. I feel better now. In other news, I finished my short story with the demon. I'm going to submit it to RayGunRevival as soon as my current submission goes through. the other is just a piece of flash fiction I did for their contest.
Thanks guys, CS

It's cool and a little weird to hear that even deployed in a war zone people can bicker about work schedules. I understand your frustration, CS. Wish the other guy would give a little.
Your deployment must be a very strange mixture of the terrifying and the mundane.

Oh...yeah. Not to mention the just plain odd. Last time I was here they had me doing what everyone else is doing. "Here's your rifle, body armor, and lots and lots of ammo...there's the gate. Good luck" Okay, so there were humvees (HMMWV) involved and m992 (Cats) ammo carriers from time to time. remind me later to relate that story. Where was I? Right. I'm going to talk to the NCO in charge of the days off and see if we can arrange something. Anything would be better than this odd ball set up we have now. I also need to find something else to write. I've got a glimmer of an idea that I may exploit, or there's the novel idea that's been floating around in my head for a year or more. I'd rather stick with short storie still I'm more comfortable with it. And till I can see if anyone's going to want to read it. If I'm the only one that'll enjoy it, I'll just leave in in my head with all the other nonsense, voices, and ideas. --CS

You hear voices? Hmm.
Go for either one. But you know, you're kind of in an ideal situation to take your first stab at a novel. No one ever has to read it but you.

What's wrong with hearing voices? They keep telling me to do things like pick up litter and feed homeless people. Oh...and launch 155mm HE, or WP, rounds at the enemy. They're harmless... the voices that is. I'm of two minds on the point of my novel. I've had to revise and refine my ideas concerning it much over the last six months. Largely due to Wherethemapends.com and other advice I've read. As my talent(such as it is) matures, I keep finding different areas that I need to grow and adapt. When I look back at my original idea, I find that it closely resembles the catastrophe that my short story "A Learning Objective" was. Believe me, it was horrible. So really, the question boils down to: have I learned enough that I can start this project and see it through? Notice, I didn't say, "Do I think that I've learned enough". Then there's the big one: What does Jesus want me to do? Ouch. I have no idea. I'll probably ask him here in a minute, but that's what really counts. I DO know that His direction to join the Army was partially so that I could learn about people: how they react, how they interact, how they think. On my planet, these things are so much easier. *Sigh* Ah for the comforts of home. Oh well. There are, btw, lots and lots of reasons He wanted me to join, that's just one of them. Yeeii! this has gotten too long. Again. Well...I'm alive and wordy...er..kick'n. BTW, the "Days off" thing is over till next month. Hopefully we can have this item knocked out and my life can STAY normal, for me anyway, for the time being. May Jesus speak long and hard. [Mo] knows we need it. --CS (I am [Mo]'s person, BTW)

At some point every would-be novelist has to sit down and actually write a novel.
Crazy, I know.
You have to prove to yourself that you can actually pull off a really long story.
So do it. Don't be paralyzed by the thought that you don't know enough. Just do it! Then get comments from people who are a bit ahead of you on the journey. Then revise. Then do a new one...
You can do it. Huaaa.

Roger roger. I Hear. I Understand. I Acknowledge. HUA! Actually, I was thinking of taking a page from Eric Nylund's book. He tends to do multiple projects at the same time. That way there's no starting up after a book is mailed off, he's already half way through the next one.
What I thought I'd do is try to get a short story started. Once the prep work is done, which I'll do at work, I can start the story and the prep work for the book. The only problem is that I don't have a clue what to write about for a short story...so that may end up being scrapped. Regardless, I'll be starting soon!
