I like the idea of cleaning up the board, and hauling off to archive the dead zones.
The idea of a writers' workshop is good, too. My only concern would be that not all of us are short-story writers. So the workshop exercises would have to be designed in such a way that all types can make use of them.
I do think contributors could put up samples for critique using the recommended "Self-editing for Fiction Writers" as a benchmark. A workshop could be a kind of self-help group. That would require a lot of maturity on the part of all participants, but in theory it should work.

I'm all for a trial, as soon as we get the details worked out.

Not all are short story writers but all are writers. And any writer can write a short story--don't get me started...You'll never shut me up.

Jeff, great choices for admin. I have no doubt that they'll do a most satisfactory and excellent job. CS, great idea for a workshop. I know I could use all the help that I can get. So many ideas - minus so many distractions - minus some procrastination= getting very little done. Anywho...Long Live The Anomaly!!!!

I love it! This is the most activity I've seen in a long time. The whole possibility of shutting down has everyone up in arms. Really got everybody fired up, we should do this more often (jokes, jokes)

You're right, sabre. When that was brought up, it prompted me to speak up. I mostly just browse sites and never speak. But visiting the Anomaly has become part of my daily routine. Even if nothing gets posted, just going back over the comments provides insights and encouragement to me.
The Lord does indeed work in mysterious ways.

Hey...I know I just joined, and all, but if you need another admin, or just a general moderator, I offer my services.
I like the idea of cleaning out older areas of the forum. Archive or delete, depending on how important it is.
I really, really like the workshop idea. I think, for me, if there was something like that, it would force me to write more often, ya know? Or maybe we could have an area of the forum that's like a writer's group where everyone has to write something to show for comments and/or critique every month, or something.

Thanks for your comments and offers, everyone. Yeah, it's crazy how the thought of shutting it down kind of rousted everyone to action. I've been overwhelmed with comments like scholar's, that The Anomaly had become an encouragement to people even though very few people were posting. I'd see at the bottom that we'd have 2 guests present, but I began to just assume that meant spider bots.
So I guess The Anomaly was having an effect, after all. That's tremendous. And now it looks poised to become more active, which is also tremendous.
I think we'll stick with the number of admins we have now, but thank you for the offer, paischaros. We may need more later or we may have some turnover.
But I hope everyone will continue to voice their opinions and dreams for The Anomaly. The admins aren't an exclusive club who are the only ones who get to dream and shape this forum. We all do.
Thanks, all.
Jeff

Aww, I thought I was finally in a club I, Sabre3030, solemnly swear to uphold the law of The Anomaly, serve it's patrons to the full extent of my power, and welcome all brothers and sisters in Christ. (That was my attempt at an admin swearing in)

A good attempt I'd say. "Arise, Sabre3030, Keeper and Defender of the Anomaly. May the Lord bless your service and may your welcome be met with greatful hearts." (That goes for all the other admins, too, by the way.)

*Mutters something about having done this already...twice*
I, CS, *mumble mumble mumble* in Christ
Next!
I, too, am thrilled at all the activity. Now it takes me quite a while to check everything. Which is awesome! Keep up the posts, folks!

Geeze, way to be enthusiastic about being sworn in CS. Set an example for all your little munchkins who follow your lead. Anyway, I hope to see more activity like this in the future, and at the risk of sounding like a bad tv commercial, tell your friends and family about the Anomaly! (too much advertising too soon?)
