Prayers, please, for my colleague Bob. In addition to being a reporter at my day job, he's the author of Orlando Chow, a restaurant guide. He had what was supposed to be outpatient surgery, but because of complications had to be sent to the ICU, where they are keeping him sedated. He's stable now, but he's likely to be out of action for a while.

OBJ Staff Writer Bob Mervine diesBob was a world-class gastronome, and I know he's having a great feast with the best host ever. Please continue to pray for Bob's family, and for those of us in the newsroom. He worked in this town for a long time and knew, it seems, everybody. His shoes will be impossible to fill.

He went in for routine surgery and he ended up dying? What happened? Will the doctor and/or hospital be sued for malpractice?
How awful for the family.
Jeff

My condolences. As Jeff said, it must be awful for the family to have it happen so unexpected. I'll pray for them.

Sorry, I was mistaken when I wrote "outpatient surgery." He went to see his doctor about some abdominal pains, the doctor sent him to the hospital, and then he wound up in ICU. For privacy reasons, we haven't been given any details.
He had two kids and four grandkids. The memorial service will be next Sunday afternoon.
