Jeff,
Hadn't thought of using the rods to bolster the energy output. But accidents happen and a good spark mixed with a slow leak might provide a tense situation to add to the mix, don't you think?

By the way, I did go ahead and write a short story based on this idea. It will run in an upcoming issue of Focus on the Family's Clubhouse magazine.
