" 21You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' 22But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca,' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.""
In this passage Jesus likens anger in ones heart to murder, what if someone had so much hatred that they could physically kill anyone by just willing it?
This is a new base concept for a story I'm developing atm.

Cool idea, Ezlo! Kind of a Scanners/Firestarter kind of idea. Very cool. Reminds me of the "Charlie X" episode of the original Star Trek, too.
I'm relieved to see your idea, actually. When I saw your header I thought I was going to have to kick and ban my first person! Glad your idea is legit.
Would your guy be like a supervillain or big-time bad guy? Is he maybe a good guy who struggles to control this power? How would he do so?
Fascinating.

Or perhaps someone in between who eventually goes one way or the other?

Good idea, Christian Soldier. That would be very interesting to watch, wouldn't it?

Well I developed his character a little more. He's going to be an ex-cop with an incredible sense of justice, marred with a terrible childhood of a abusive father and non-existant mother.
Later in the story he begins to kill criminals to try and rid the world of evil, until he realizes that the evil is within.

I like the development. I would also suggest that there is little separating one kind of passion from another, if you assume they are all based on our emotions (as opposed to some being from God and others from the enemy). To the extent this is the case, maybe he could bring someone from the brink of death by love in the same way he could kill them by hate. It would depend on how he felt about each given person. And what if he didn't feel quite THAT passionatly about someone? Would he send them into intense pain for a brief time, or heal them of some moderatly severe illness, by willing it so? And do his emotions affect only other people, or could he also affect animals? Inanimate objects?
Here's a brainstorm. He wants to get someone to do something, say, turn left. He can't be obvious about it, though, so whenever they start to turn right he thinks angry thoughts, and gives them a blinding head-ache, until they turn left, at which time he thanks them, mentally, removing the headache and replacing it with a sense of tranquility. Finally, like Pavlov's dogs, they get the picture and go left.

I like your idea of the polar opposites, it maybe a cool way of providing a plot twist. As for the in-depth emotional tweaking, I'm not sure I'd want to go that far. People get a little bored with that, it's kinda like in the X-men movies where Jean Grey has all this psychic powers, but you notice she never disrupts molecules or breaks compounds. Wolverine dissolves away, when she could easily just light him on fire by moving his molecules around really fast, you know what I mean?

not sure I follow, entirelly, but that's okay. I like the emotional development stuff, some people don't. I watch dramas, some people watch action, and even I vascilate between the two. Write what's in you, not what other people tell you to. *shrugs*

Yep, regardless of what others think, it's still Art: YOUR art.
