Since Christmas ive been toying with the idea of what if chooseing a middle eastern tribe to be his chosen people God instead chose a Native American tribe to be his chosen people and Jesus was born and ministered in North America. What got me thinking about this was the Huron Christmas Carol. Dont know how many know of it but its Canada oldest Christmas carol. And was written by a missionary who wanted to explain the nativity story to the natives in term that they would understand better. Here are the lyrics for those curious:
'Twas in the moon of winter-time When all the birds had fled, That mighty Gitchi Manitou Sent angel choirs instead; Before their light the stars grew dim, And wandering hunter heard the hymn: "Jesus your King is born, Jesus is born, In excelsis gloria."
Within a lodge of broken bark The tender Babe was found, A ragged robe of rabbit skin Enwrapp'd His beauty round; But as the hunter braves drew nigh, The angel song rang loud and high... Refrain
O children of the forest free, O sons of Manitou, The Holy Child of earth and heaven Is born today for you. Come kneel before the radiant Boy Who brings you beauty, peace and joy. Refrain ---- For those wondering Gitchi Manitou is the Algonquian word for God. There would be alot different if this happened. Islam would either not exist or be founded in the America's as well, leaveing the Celtic, Roman Religions to grow. It would also mean a complete redefiantion of Christian ideas to fit a native understanding.

A similar thing was done by a white, baby boomer missionary to the Native people's of South East Alaska and the Pacific Northwest of the continental U.S. and Canada (Tlinget, Hiada, Tshimshian etc.) He carved the Christmas and Easter Totem Poles. Here's a link to an article: www.txcumc.org/news_detail.asp?pkvalue=453I just saw an e-mail from a friend of mine who's a member of the next wave of ministry to Native Americans and other tribal groups; ministry to Native People's by Native people. His name is Bill Pageran, and he is an excellent drummer and member of the band, "Broken Walls." They're whole objective is to bring the music and dance back to tribal people groups as worship to the almighty God. It's awesome and liberating what they, and others like them are doing, and people are coming to Christ, being healed, delivered, and baptized in the Holy Spirit. Here's a couple links to them: www.youtube.com/v/Enekm6qPorQ and www.brokenwalls.com/content/
