These guys are scam artists. The Florida AG's office has filed charges against them. Run away as fast as you can.
Agents get enough people sending them material, they don't go stalking the internet to request material.

Sadly, it seems like most of the "publishers" and "agencies" that crop up in places like the google ads at the top of this page are all predators. I find Predators and Editors a good resource for finding folks who have been outed as scammers. anotherealm.com/prededitors/The best rule of thumb is: if they ask you for a dime, don't do business with them. Real agents and publishers make their money off of book sales and the like, not from the authors.

Thanks you guys! That's why I hesitated. Something initially told me not to trust them and then after a simple Internet search I found a lot of bad press for them. But I feel like I trust the people on here so I figured I'd as you guys Thanks again!

Hey, we gotta watch eachother's backs, ya know?
I'm already pacing the floor trying to figure out what to do about a couple folks who I know who are just enamored with Tate publishing. While Tate does have a royalty contract arm of their business, the vast majority of what I've heard about is the company asking authors for a refundable deposit that the author gets back after they sell 5000 books. Now, this isn't like some little $39.95 deposit...more like $3995.00!
And correct me if I'm wrong, Jeff or anyone else, but I recently read a statistic that only a small percentage of books published any given year clear the 5000 units mark in sales. To me, that just sounds like Tate is doing something sketchy...

Very true Becky.
AbsoluteWrite.com has a very extensive Beware & Background check section on their forums, for the good guys and the bad. WLA has its own sub forum there is so much info on them (as well as numerous aliases). PublishAmerica is another scam that has its own subforum there. Tate hasn't quite made it to that point but the thread is several hundred pages long.

I believe the average run for a published book (not self-published) is around 500 copies.
