I read a couple of stories in the contest, but I didn't see anything I was excited enough about to comment on. Instead, I'll tell you about one I do like. You can take your pick: any book in the Joe Box series by John Robinson.
Here's what I like about Joe. He's a PI whose lived a rough life. He's a Vietnam veteran, been into drinking, women, all that...but then he gave his life to Christ. Loves God with all his heart, but he's not perfect, he's still working things out...duh...just like everybody else. Makes for a great read.
But, seriously, if you're fond of prairie romances and if your delicate senses are easily offended FYI...ignore this. You won't like the books. But if you like action and dude fiction and guys that sound like guys, you'll like Joe Box.
That's my 2 cents.

I've never read any of the Joe Box series, but the author, John Robinson, seems like an all around great guy...at least what I can judge from hobnobbing with him on another online community I hang around.
Just from the way he seems to have a real heart to share his knowledge and experience with other writers makes me want to buy his books.

Are there more of them? I read one a year or so ago, but never heard of him again. My dad and I loved it.

There are three Joe Box novels, so far as I can tell: Until the Last Dog Dies, When Skylarks Fall and To Skin a Cat. Here's his website (John's) of you want to know what he's up to. www.johnrobinsonbooks.com/index.htm

You rock. I read the first one. I'll have to surprise Dad, then fight over them. Much thanks!

That, my friend, is an excellent idea.
