A 17-year-old girl named Chelsea King was assaulted last week at a park in my area. They searched for her for several days, and yesterday they found her body. A guy has been arrested for the crime already, but is pending sentence. Please pray for her family, who I imagine must be going through some horrible times right now. No one should die that young.
This whole situation prompted me to write this poem:
Forever 17 In Memoriam Chelsea King, 1993-2010
Just going for a run Enjoying the trails And what nature has to offer What’s so wrong with a girl doing that? Why can’t a girl just go for a run Enjoy the trails What nature has to offer Without some creep trying to assault her And ultimately kill her? Mr. Gardner, because of your deed That girl will be forever 17 Her life is gone so soon Because of you. I know that we Christians are not to judge But what he did Is impermissable. Poor family. Poor girl. Poor trails.

Renee'
My prayers go out to that family. I couldn't imagine. . .
It brings to mind that as this world gets colder and darker there are more and more Orcs in the woods.
I think it makes our Lord's command "to pray that we might live quiet lives in peace and safety" a lot more immediate and real to us.
The Lord keep you all.

Thanks newburydave. I agree, such things do make those words more real.
The guy arrested for Chelsea King's murder has pleaded not guilty. Other than that I haven't heard anything else. Some investigators are speculating that he might also have been involved in the murder of Amber Dubois, a teenager who went missing in my area just over a year ago. Her remains were found just a few days after Chelsea's body was found. There is no evidence at this point that the two murders were connected, but there's a possibility.
Just thought I'd update.

Its a dark world we live in now... and we never know when our time will be done here. That always pushes me to share God more with people. Praying for the young women's families.

When I read things like this, it really makes me pause when my liberal friends tell me how much better society is becoming.
