This is a quibble, so ignore me if it is dorky, but do unicorns (unicae? unicornicopia? What's the plural of unicorn? I've only ever seen one...er...I mean...heard of one at a time) have cloven feet? Traditionally, they don't, so I'm wondering if there is a reason for this somewhat subtle departure. A cleft in the hoof also traditionally suggests evil or impishness, so as a reader, I'll probably need a reason for this.

All I've ever read in unicorn lore (and plural is just unicorns) is that unicorns had cloven hooves.

Okay, and again, forgive the questions. I understand they are random and small. So is this unicorn more like a goat, with a beard and everything, or more like a horse with a horn and cloven feet?

My unicorn is the latter, looks like a horse but with a horn and cloven hooves. Some people make their unicorns more like goats. But I prefer my unicorns to be more like horses, just with a few unicorn-ish traits. I'll give my male unicorns beards as well, though, cause they're male. Just seems appropriate to me I've been slowly working on editing the story and it's coming along Just wish I had more time....

Medieval people, who equated the unicorn with Christ, almost always pictured it with cloven hooves. They also made it a bit more like a goat, with a goat-like face and beard but the body more like a horse. And they referred to it as being small, like a goat. You can make your unicorn any way you want, but you are correct in the cloven-hoof part. And the fact that the medieval people equated the unicorn with Christ certainly debunks the cloven-hoof = evil theory. If anyone is interested in the "unicorn as Christ" theory, check out my latest blog entry [ castlelyons7.blogspot.com/]. I'm a bit of an amateur student of medieval art, especially in regards to the unicorn.

So, hah, forgot to tell you all that Mindflight's declined, but that's ok. I intend to work on it some more and polish it up more, and then start looking elsewhere. In the meantime I've started on a new story and plan to post what I have here soon for y'alls scrutiny We'll see...depends on how long it gets.
