I have to do a final project for my Creative Writing Workshop class, and most of us are interested in doing chapbooks so I am going to do something along that line. I don't exactly know how to do that so I'm going to have to learn. (I was in a group last semester where we made one, but they didn't give me much to do, particularly with the design).
Right now, I'm trying to plan out the look and such of this, since I gave my rough draft of my final project pieces - five poems and three stories, all related to my world of Walden - to my teacher to look over and comment on along with other work from our class while he's in New York next week for a reading of some book of his (probably the collection of James Schuyler poems he just published).
It's a lot of work, and especially since he thought my 5-7 page story assignment was "a bit videogamey," that I should "let the language open up" and that "the feel is too constricted for the content," I'm a little worried. He seemed to like what I had in my final project draft when he briefly glanced over it in class - and the first piece he's already seen because it's the same sestina I wrote for one of our poetry assignments - but I don't know what he'll think of it upon further study.
Anyway, I guess just pray that God will be with me as I do this, that I will be able to take any criticism my teacher gives me, and that I'll be able to make this project the best it can be. I'm going to have to make multiples, since the one we turn in the teacher keeps and I want to give one to my friend Jessica and one to this girl Katie who was brave enough to come up to me after class yesterday and tell me that she liked my stories but that I needed more description (more or less the old "show, don't tell" thing I've heard a million times), plus have one for myself and others to give out, so it's going to be a lot of work. This on top of my other homework, and finals very soon. So please pray.
