Hello everyone...I was wondering if you might have a moment to lift up the congregation of my church (Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church) in prayer. Our former pastor of 20+ years who was elected last year to move up to bishop of the denomination went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning. He was driving on a back road, lost control of his car, crashed into a tree, and the car caught fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Needless to say, our congregation as well as our little denomination is in shock. If you could pray for those who are mourning him, as well as for the leadership of the denomination, who now have to replace a wonderful leader and man of God. He leaves behind a wife and four grown children.
Thanks so much.

Thanks, isabeau. The world throws us some real challenges sometimes. We haven't been at the church super long (4 years), so my family doesn't feel the loss quite as keenly as some others, but it's still a sad piece of news. I really feel for the people I know who had him as their pastor nearly their whole lives!

The fact that believers get to go on to the Lord's presence is such a comfort. It's amazing the difference between attending a believer's funeral vs. the service for a non-believer. I cry hard at those.

Thanks for all your prayers, everyone. I'm sure tonight's visitation and tomorrow's funeral will go more smoothly and comfort those who attend due in part to your supplication.

The fact that believers get to go on to the Lord's presence is such a comfort. It's amazing the difference between attending a believer's funeral vs. the service for a non-believer. I cry hard at those. I know what you mean. My husband and I each lost a family member who were non-believers; one was athiest to his dying breath. We truly mourned. It's more than a temporary separation--it's an eternal one with no hope of a joyful reunion in God's kingdom. But the loss of a brother or sister in Christ -- that's temporary. We miss them, but they just left this adventure a little ahead of us. We'll meet again in God's presence. Praying for family and congregation.

Thank for all the prayers and kind words everybody. The visitation on Friday and the funeral on Saturday went extremely smoothly, and people are slowly having their chance to take in the reality and grieve. Church this morning was also very emotional, though I couldn't help but smile at the idea that Pastor Kevin has gotten the chance to hear the words "Well done!" from our heavenly father.
Apparently, it took from 6 pm to 11:15 pm on Friday to get the 1000+ visitors through the line to speak with Pastor Kevin's family, so one can see that he has had a huge impact on a denomination whose churches are usually small...in the 100-200 attenders range. He will be missed, but we can rejoice in our reunion with him when the Lord deems it time.
Again, your prayers have been a comfort to many, I know it.
