My Nextbook android tablet was stolen this evening. The tablet has been what I use to write, when I'm not near a computer. It had an SD slot, so I could easily move from the tablet to the computer and back again. I keep a thumbdrive for backups and I recently took everything and backed it all up on CD. So the worst I am out is maybe a couple of pages.
For all its quirks, it served me well. I hope that the person who got it is able to make good use of it. Whatever happens is God's will. I don't wish the person ill.
I know that a lot of people feel that I should really be hacked off at the situation and the person who took it. As Grady Nutt would say, "Some people you wish it would just rain onions on".
My only fear is that the person will publish what I have. Beyond that, as I said before, I'm not upset at them. In fact this is one of those times I need to praise and thank God. God has a plan.

Is there a Track Tablet function? There was a news article lately about a stolen ipad that the police tracked the track tablet signal, and led to the biggest meth lab bust ever.

Unfortunately, no. This tablet is over a year old and was an off-brand so it didn't have certain features like GPS. I'm going to the police tomorrow (it was stolen at Wal-Mart) so they can put it in the system in case it get's pawned.

Sorry to hear about your tablet. Most of my work is hand written in a journal. I keep my backups on an external HD. Of course, I usually have it in the same bag as my laptop, so I'm not sure its well thought-out. There are also a few online backup websites, like Carbonite, that you can use. You're right about one thing though: Its all part of God's plan. Who knows where the tablet will end up? Maybe into the hands of the one person who needs God right now. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Don't be discouraged - be empowered.

Thank, all. While I'm debating the merits of the different tablets, I'm debating the merits of using Google Docs to store my book while I work on it. My wife worries that, well, its Google. Considering all the controversies with privacy, and the potential threat of hacking, is Google Docs a viable, safe alternative for storing my work? One thought on Google Docs alternate use, is just to type the day's work and then to cut and paste it into my main document stored on my computer.
For Christmas, we got the family a new TV, and a friend got me a great deal on a Google TV. I just figured out that I could use Google Docs to work on my book while someone else is using the computer.

Google docs is one option. My hubby and I use Dropbox, a cloud storage service. We swap files back and forth through it, and it works just like another directory on your hard drive.
