Ghosts, Family Curses and Jabez's Prayer. My story is titled: The Wishing Well Curse Ezekiel Jabez Clay accepts an invitation to spend a week in his distant uncle’s enormous estate outside of Pueblo, Colorado while he decides if he is willing to accept the conditions of his inheritance. And why not? Back home, in Austin Texas, he became homeless, divorced, and jobless in one day. Then he awarded himself Schmuck of the Week when he saved the life of his ex-wife’s new lover, John Martin. In order to receive the entire inheritance he has to break a family curse from over a one hundred year ago and restore the loss of true love. But who can he trust? Himself? Twyla Rivers, an eighty-two year old attorney whose interest is in displaced Indians, Clifford Valdez, the law office’s receptionist and Twyla’s nephew who says none of that is important, but freaks out when he sees Zeke’s tattoo. A Pastor who looks like a Hell’s Angel Member, or Luther Clayton, his dead uncle who gives him First Chronicles 4:10, the Jabez Prayer, and an Indian Story about a Coyote’s Curse. Just because his middle name is Jabez, does that mean his dead mother was in on this too? What about the two ghosts: Otto Hoffman and Rosa Lehman, the amazing young lady with ice blue eyes he can only talk to when he’s at the well. And why does his band of thorns tattoo bleed every time he gets near the water well.
Am I at the right Place? Is this where my story belongs? Thank you for your feedback.

I think this is the right place. Your story concept sounds really interesting! Are you still writing it or is already done?

Thank you, Kessie! I am currently writing this story. I'm on chapter 9. Which doesn't mean anything to any body but me...but I was not certain what genre it belonged. Speculative Fiction seems right, but ... you know how doubt creeps in.

Wow! A band of thorns tattoo that bleeds? Very interesting. I hope it's not infected. Then again, methinks there might be something more going on here than a mere infection!
I would definitely read your story! Sounds like speculative fiction to me. My only advice, since you are on chapter 9, is to write with the door closed. Too much advice before the story is finished might be more likely to lead events in a direction other than what you've intended. But by all means, when the door is opened and you've finished the story, I for one would like to read it. Sounds like a very creative story concept!

Excellent advise Justinjoesherman. Everything I have read about writing fictions says, "Know your genre!" So I kept wondering, "What is my genre???" That was the main purpose of my posting this description. Superstoked to know you are interested in the concept and are interested in reading it. When I have completed the manuscript ... and btw, the tatoo is not infected! haha!

Sounds kind of paranormal/thriller to me. Do you read this sort of thing, too? That's how to know your genre. :-)

But I just didn't know where my story fit under the specific genre category. They seem to over lap in some ways. My first manuscript was alternating chapters about the earthly/worldly rhelm of a woman's life and the guardian angel, his angellic warriors and prayer warriors who guided her and protected her through it all. That seems paranormal too. So Now, I'm back to being confused.

You can always look up the various genres on wikipedia and read up on what each one typically contains. I think angels and stuff still falls under paranormal/supernatural, but there's lots of subgenres in those.

Sounds interesting I don't know as much about the paranormal thrillers, but I think Kessie is right about the genre.

Ya'll are convincing me that my genre is paranormal thriller! Cool. Thanks for the info. Now, I have to get back to writing. Zeke just found a 57 harley in the garage and he's trying to get it running! YAY!
