Wanted to post an FYI about an upcoming short story in the next installment of The Cross and the Cosmos. Hit Points: Gettysburg Generals follows a pair of moronic generals trying to capture a town from the Confederate Army. I'm really looking forward to sharing this story with everyone b/c it takes the form of something i have always wanted as a kid growing up, but never found any content to satisfy me. It is a story based on MMORPG game play with certain, shall i say, out of place artifacts, that accompany these civil war generals. its enough bizarre and nutsy to entertain the least of us. it also connects to Christ which is the best part. to check out more visit my story page on my site. jacoblindaman.com/for-profit/published-works/or check out what i've got on goodreads.com www.goodreads.com/author/show/5423855.Jacob_Lindaman/blogi can't wait. i hope you enjoy it!

Interesting. I like MMORPGS. The Civil War is not the typical MMORPG-like setting, although I've heard of hobbyist text-based MMOs that were set in the Old West. Did any particular experience playing any particular MMORPG inspire this story?

Nothing in particular really. I grew up playing solo games like Doom and Wolfenstein. When games like Diablo II and Starcraft came out i was definitely hooked. Then the mother of all games, World of Warcraft, changed my life forever. Well, for a few joyous months anyways when i didn't talk to anyone or do anything other than sit in front of my pc. I will say though, that the the humor of the machinima Red vs Blue was kind of inspiring. Caution though as there is a lot of cursing. roosterteeth.com/home.php I want to be clear that Hit Points: Gettysburg Generals in no way incorporates the nasty dialogue or inappropriate settings in Red vs Blue. I simply found the humor inspiring and thought it had a lot of potential when used in a Christ centered story. one last influence perhaps, of what i didn't want to use. Have you ever heard of .hack//Sign? It was an anime/video game/manga whose characters are actually users in the real world. All of the action takes place in the virtual world. i thought this was kind of cheesy since the audience is drawn into the fantasy world that is fake, but knows in the back of their minds that the real world outside that really matters is boring. so why even bother making it if it is all fake, right? anyways i hope this answers your question. thanks Bainespal.

I played Wolfenstein a little bit, and many other old DOS games, mostly jump-and-shoot-style 2-d platformers. I tried Doom briefly when I was probably younger than 10 years old, and I was so terrified that I never tried it again. I still love both computers and gaming, but I have no idea where mainstream gaming is going these days. Now a days, I mostly play indie adventure and roleplaying games. The exception is free-to-play MMORPGs. I've rarely been very active in MMOs, but I like to wander around and explore in different online worlds. [....] I have heard of Red vs. Blue from friends, which says a lot about its popularity. I don't even know what machinima is. I also never got into anime or manga at all, even though I respect the art forms. It seems we share some interests in the tangled web of Internet Geekdom, but we've come by different routes. Anyways, "Hit Points: Gettysburg Generals" promises to be unique. From your description, I already don't know quite what to make of it.

"It's not pink, it's lightish red!"
Anyway...
So is your story set solely in the MMORPG, or told solely from the point of the players, then?
