So friends...who's doing NaNo this year? I am, and it's actually going better than I thought. But the one thing I'm not thrilled about is when I write at top speed, my artistry suffers. I feel like I'm crashing forward, all plot, and lacking nuance. Ah well, that's what revisions are for, right? So how about you guys? Making good progress? Quit after 3 days? Post your squeeeees and your ughs here. (If you have time, that is. I know I'm pretty slim on forum time myself. I have vowed to steer completely clear of NaNo's site forums.)

Me. I'm behind, but not terribly.

I haven't started yet, though I intend to. But I am determined to finish the outline first; a vast monstrosity that is practically relating each scene individually. Pros: When I finally do start writing, it will be done at a record pace. Cons: I may be starting 3 weeks late.

I've been kind of struggling along, then I found this little questionnaire and filled it out. killzoneauthors.blogspot.com/2012/11/kick-starting-your-story.html(It's a short list. I like short, pithy lists like this.) I did it for my two main characters and figured out all kinds of crazy plot stuff along the way. Tonight I changed POVs in a scene that wasn't working, and went bonkers writing. It was the first time this story has flowed this well. I really needed to bring in the unicorn as a main character. :-)

I'm not doing NaNo, but I'm brainstorming for a second book in a trilogy without much success...I mostly popped in to say THANK YOU! to Kessie for that awesome list!

So, we're down to the end of the month--how's everybody doing? Did you drop out or finish or are you still working on it? I'm sitting at 43k and I'm sure I'll finish Nano--if not the story in question. :-)

Looks like I will finish too. I have 5K to go, but the story probably has 10-12k. Sigh. Everything I write grows like one of those little capsules with a sponge dinosaur inside.

Started yesterday, but unfortunately, I can't make 10K a day, so at this point my options seem to be time travel or magic. Any advice on which is more practical would be appreciated, but I won't be too cut up about failing, if it comes to that. I got a good start, and am feeling pretty happy with the way this story developed all through the outlining process (honestly, it's still developing as we speak).
Congrats on nearing the end, Kessie and Becky. Don't fail so close to the finish!

Yeah, 10 K a day is a tall order for even a full time, professional author, so I wouldn't beat yourself up about not being able to do the full wordcount in less than a week. Having a plan in place is half the battle, so you could always just keep plugging on the idea in your own time, of course. My challenge now will be to not rush the end of my story, because I'm anxious to wrap it up and then get it to my crit partner.
