I've sort of been jumbling this story around for roughly three years now, not sure if I'll ever get it written, as I have a hard time unloading character development without info dumping the reader.
Right now I'm juggling with this: I am writing a slow paced psychological thriller set post collapse of a totalitarian society during a period of nuclear winter, with an odd mash up of a culture of technological revolution vs. old world values including catholicism. There is also a subplot of gender identity.
I want to call it a dystopian, but I'm afraid it's not very specific. As its more Post Totalitarian, with an ever looming threat of dystopia reemerging. It supposed to be young adult, except I'm not sure if 16 to 27 is still considered YA.
Edit: I forgot to include that its suppose to be post Cold War, where tensions between Russia and America never really settled.

Welcome to the Anomaly Sarah;
Might I suggest a book. One of the best that I've read is our own Jeff Gerke's "Character Development for the Plot First Writer".
It is available on Amazon in Kindle format if you do eBooks; probably for Nook as well. You can also get it from Marcher Lord Press on paper, the last I knew Jeff was offering a writers bundle of several books for a discounted price.
It builds on the Meyers Brigs personality assessment system to allow you to actually build your characters based on sound Psychological research.
Well met my sister, I hope we can help you achiever your calling as a writer.
