Okay folks. Collaborative fiction - it's a blast. But somehow, this board has been left to die. I say we can't let that happen!
Let's get something going on here again - start with a short story and see if we can expand from there.
Genre?

I voted for the blend for the sake of some genre-mashing and combining to make some new ideas and what-not.

I'm curious. So, how does this work?

I've no clue**, but I don't like the sixth and most popular poll option. "A Blend of Whatever Will Work" seems like it's simply postponing the decision to a later date. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, but may as well start out with some decisiveness if we want to go anywhere.
**If you only take one thing away from this post, make it this one.

Thanks, Ranger.
Stormiel: I'm kinda making it up as I go along, adapting methods my friends and I have used in the past with success. Basically, we'll decide on a genre, then start throwing around character ideas (and plot ideas should grow out of the character development. Hopefully). It's all a bit helter-skelter; but like I said, it's worked in the past.
Randy: Good point! I didn't think of that. So....if that one wins, then I guess we'd just take the two highest of the others and combine them, introducing elements from other genres as we go along. (?)

Judging by the popularity of World of Warcraft, I vote Fantasy, with steampunk a close second. The two tend to overlap.

I definitely think that whatever we end up with we should be open to any sort of genre swapping that comes up, so long as it fits nicely and makes an interesting addition. Though I suppose that having a poll option that results in two genre ideas being mixed right from the starting gate is good.

The idea of steampunk and fantasy being opposing sides of an uneasy coexistence on one/two continent(s) would set the stage for some delicious controversy and conflict.

I don't think it would be possible to truly have them entirely separate, cultures and technology flow across borders to easily.
