I spent 4 days off work after the new year at home helping Sandy clean the basement so she can do the homeschooling down there. We got it done, and it is working well. That's good.
The bad. I walked in on the seventh and found out that we salaried had lost all our accrued vacation (I had 34 hours). Not only that, but the 32 hours I had just spent counted in 2013 (not in 2012 when they were approved and planned and we could accrue). I'm already 4 days down.
I have been working on my anger issues but this did not help.
I sat down with the boss this morning and asked if the time could be counted in 2012, but he said no. If I want those hours back, I have to comp time it, which means less time with the family because of a policy change which we had no warning of.
My wife has been wanting to paint the house since we moved in 4 years ago. We painted half in September. This spring we will paint the rest, but that might mean we don't get to have vacation for relaxing between trips to Iowa City for the doctor and snow days. Might also mean no trip to Oklahoma (again) this year to see my family.
The boss pointed out that under this new package we do get 6 weeks paid sick for doctor approved time. We didn't have that before. He also pays our disability insurance now.
We get more vacation than at most places, but this still hurts. My performance has been drastically reduced this week. I actually feel better having talked to the boss even if I don't feel great.
Also in good news, I got a call yesterday from a new pastor in the area who wants to meet me and my wife. In the conversation, he said (twice), "I want you to know that even when it looks like you're alone, God is still working in you and has a plan."
Verily, verily, I needed that.
