In the weregeek webcomic (as of this posting, it is unavailable), realized geeks have the power to release their inner geek. In this state, the geek is super strong, agile, and smart (in other words, they get a temporary boost to their stats). Most geeks do not know they can do this. They enter the state without realizing it or realizing others are in the same state with them. Joel, the alpha-geek of the regular cast, has begun training the rest because the Hunters, the soulless minions of normalcy, are getting more dangerous (Omega Squad has been called in). During Joel's training (and I was going to link to this strip), he has them sit down and think of the absolutely geekiest things they can. He gives one of them some rare, cross-over fanfic. She realizes. Another example he gives is to think of a Jedi riding a dinosaur. That made me wonder what would bring out my inner geek. I went over a few ideas, but nothing really captivated me. Then I thought of getting tickets to an apologetics conference with Ravi, Craig, and Lennox. That was close, but the thing that brought my geek to the fore was the thought of Jedi Masters Ravi Zacharius and William Lane Craig in light saber duels with Darth Dawkins and Darth Dennet. Yeah, it was geeky, but that was the point. And if I had some sweet photoshop skills, I would be so making that picture. And what unleashes your geek?

Giving Elvish names to the magnificent weapons that I craft in said online Lord of the Rings game (that's a lot easier to work with on windows ). Got a couple of online Elvish dictionaries, and I generally spend more time coming up with names than I do gathering materials and actually making the things.

Then again, it's not so surprising that I don't know, since I'm a noob in LOTRO as I am in just about every game on the Internet. Awesome! I must admit to being extremely picky with my characters' names in all RPGs, especially online ones, even if there is no in-character roleplaying. I've seldomly used names with specific meaning, but I do like to use genuine Elvish root combinations. I particularly like "dh" as a voiced consonantal "th".

You have to be crafting Artisan level items or higher, but if you are, a critical success prompts you to name the item (I know you can name weapons and jewelry, not sure about armor and other items).

The idea of a Superman, Captain America, and The Shadow crossover unleashes my geek.

Ranger, Sounds like you would enjoy the monthly draft at herogames. 7 heroes, 2 villains, 1 pick per day. Once a hero is picked, they cannot be used by any other writer (villains can be used by 2 writers max). This month, we're drafting the Uncanny Avengers. 2 X-Men (X-Force, Excaliber, etc) and 2 Avengers, others can be anything. The above link is available only to registered users, but the current rosters can be seen by anyone with the link. There, I'm FrankL, building Faith Force in Vatican City. I gave myself the restriction that all must be Catholic and it had to be a significant part of their story. Finding X-Men was no problem. Avengers was rougher. Some just draft teams and tell what their concept is. Others of us are writing small bits of fiction to go with our picks. Each month has different rules. One month was a space opera. One month was all DC characters (like this one being all Marvel). Another month was a sabotage draft--some of your picks were made by your competitors and you still had to work them into the story. We have had drafts where what you described could happen. Those are some of the best. It's fun and a great geek out!

Okay. That sounds really cool. Like fantasy football, but geeky cooler. I'll have to look into that.

This is the best that I can do: If anyone wants to improve it, I have the layered GIMP file.

Wow, I didn't notice how much the compression beat up that image when I saved it. I can save it again with less jpeg compression.
Want to add a caption, and go the whole nine yards to make a home-brewed Anomalien meme?
