Usually I'm glued to the news, but I was studying for an exam so I didn't hear until much after the fact. When I heard I was under the impression that it was not a serious situation, the news radio in Canada apparently didn't find it important to detail what happened or didn't know enough at that point.
I learned later of the appalling damage done, then earlier this morning that several of the family members of the atrocity at Sandy Hook had been in attendance, seated near the blast.
I'm sure we have been, but I think that right now the people of Boston, the victims, all involved need our prayers.
I hope, my fellow Anomalians, that you are all safe and that your loved ones are as well. If you know of anyone, even you yourself, that would like or requires prayer, please do not hesitate to bring it forth as I know we are willing to be there for you.
I would like to share something very poignant from Patton Oswalt, who had this to say:
"This is a giant planet and we're lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in awhile, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they're pointed towards darkness.
But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evil doers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We'd have eaten ourselves alive long ago"
I think it is important that we understand that fear cannot drive us from fighting the darkness, that no matter how bad things are and will be, life and light will always fight onward. Darkness may strive to swallow us whole, beat the fight out of us, to tell us that the world is a terrifying place that we must be afraid of. I believe that the world is full of beauty and grace, love and compassion, and that no matter how intense the darkness becomes, no matter how close the shadows are, we will fight onward. When our friends become afraid, weakened by the fight, we stand together to hold them up, to carry them onward. Together, we are the bulwark against the rising tides of evil. I give thanks that this fight is not ours alone, that the Almighty stands with us.
Friends, comrades, I will pray. Will you join me?
Yours in Christ, even when wandering from the path,
James
