Miksa is something of a savant. His incredible intellect was discovered at an early age, meaning that he was given opportunities that most people would kill for: the finest educations, attention from those in power, all that good stuff. It was hoped that Miksa would be able to bring great glory to his people.
Sadly, by the time he turned 18, it became clear that Miksa was a lost cause. He was too much of a dreamer, spending most of his waking hours lost in his thoughts rather than paying attention to what he was supposed to be doing.
He still had fits of greatness, meaning that the-powers-that-be could never get rid of him but he's not their fair-haired child any longer. If anything, he's already a barely respected eccentric.
So how does he factor into the story? Miksa is the creator of
Once he arrives on the planet, though, something strange happens: he undergoes a radical change. He discovers, much to his delight, that he somehow has a connection to the magic of the world. He feels like he's home for the first time and that he fits in.
At the same time, though, this disconcerts him greatly because for Miksa, the world has to be logical and orderly. Magic is anything but. He has to learn to let go and "let God," so to speak (perhaps under the tutelage of an exotic beauty named Aoni?).
