Hello Everyone,
In light of all the other prayer requests out there, mine seems inconsequential. Especially the Chapman's loss.
On Tuesday the 27th, Jamie is having surgery performed on her right foot. Basically, the doctor will break her foot, shave off some bone, and put the foot back together again the right way. After that, she has to stay off her foot for four weeks. My unit has granted me convalescent leave so that I can care for her for the first 15 days. During that time, my unit will be in the field.
So Jamie and I are the first, but I have more. Please remember my section during this time. They'll be going to the field with only three people. It'll be hard, but doable. I know, I've done it before. Otherwise I would have tried to get the surgery rescheduled.
My third and final request is a soldier in my unit. Last night, he tried to take his own life. He's in the hospital now. Please pray for him, that whatever would motivate him to do such a thing.
Thankyou all for you prayers and support. God bless -- CS

Prayers for all involved in all three situations. It can't be easy, but God will guide you to do and say the right things.

And you're having a birthday, I see. Feliciations and many, many returns. Hopefully less stressful than this one!!!!

Thank you all for the prayers, and you, Robi, for the birthday wishes! I'll post again tomorrow once I know how the surgery went and I have the time. Until then, God bless -- CS

Okay, the surgery is complete and Jamie and I are back home. Since the anesthesia is still in effect, she doesn't feel any pain.
Now the bad news: the bones in her foot, and possibly elsewhere, are like mush. The doctor had to use two screws and many, many pins in order to join the bones back together. The first screw resulted in a fracture. The second almost did, but the doctor stopped short and pinned it in. Because of all this, her healing time went from two to four weeks to four to eight. And God help us should she fall During this time.
Please continue your prayers for her and us. As it looks right now, I'll have to take more leave from my unit in order to care for her, which won't make them very happy at all.
God bless you all -- CS

I know this is the least of your concerns right now, but won't all those pins make getting through airport security a real pain now? Can you carry along X-rays in you wallet and a note from your doctor or something?
I'm sorry to hear about the extended leave thing. Are there other army wives who could fill in for you in caring for Jamie so you can maybe spread out your leave in a work-a-week/off-a-week situation or something?

My prayers are with you both. God will provide; healing and rest and help.
I'm waiting for the metal detector sensitive enough to pick up the wire in my jaw!!! No, not braces, wire in the jawbone where I broke it when I was 17.
All the best to both of you.

Here's hoping that the mess of wires in my own jaw don't get me into trouble in the airport tomorrow (or is it today?). And I wish I could say not braces...
Praying presently.

Jamie's foot, praise God, has healed up well and it's time to move on to the next health issue. For those of you who don't know, I'm positively obsessed with getting her health under control. Her foot was just the first step. Now we need to move to the, excuse the pun, bigger issue: her weight. On October 6th she is due to have the Gastric Bypass surgery at Scott and White in Temple. She's done a lot of research for this surgery and is really hyped about it. Unfortunately, she's also going through a lot of emotional issues concerning the surgery, some of which from the birth control.
Please pray for us both. I'll be at the National Training Center in California from the fourth of September to the fourth of October. During that time Jamie will be crash dieting, on doc's orders, to make a little room for him to operate in. It'll only be for two weeks, but during those two weeks she can't have any real food. Salads and protein drinks: that's it. After the surgery she'll be on liquids only for a week or two while her system heals. Then over the next four weeks she'll be slowly getting regular food back into use.
Please continue to pray for us and our newly forged marriage, and thank you all so much for your prayers and support. Sometimes I think you guys are why I'm as sane as I am, which isn't saying much.
God Bless you all -- CS

Glyn, definitely praying for Jamie.
The emotional issues are certainly tied in with the weight, so crash dieting with you gone and in preparation for major surgery has got to be nearly maddening for her.

As always, never a quite moment in the Shull family, and I wouldn't trade any of it for the world.
