I ask you fellow believers to pray for the innocent and the weak who are being persecuted in Georgia. I also ask you to pray for guidance for the world leaders who will be deciding whether or not this escalates into World War 3 or another cold war. Russia and the US have been rattling sabers and growling at each other for a very long time, let's hope that the next leader (or current one) doesn't lead the world to the brink of chaos and destruction. I ask that we as Christians pray that this be resolved peacefully and that those who cannot protect themselves be spared the horrors.

That's assuming that it's avoidable. As I see it, and the fact that Medvedev (spelling?) and Putin both have been on record for talking about how they see the USSR under Stalin as Russia's golden years, I fear we may be seeing the beginning of Russia's return to a imperialistic, communistic regime. I'm not quite to the level of the conspiracy theorists that believe that the fall of Communist Russia was no more than a ruse to lull the West and get them to de-militarize, but I do sometimes wonder. I will pray that peace remains, however.

I've really been struggling with this issue. As I understand it, a lot of the people in South Ossetia have Russian citizenship. They had a referendum to break away from Georgia, and that's when the trouble started. And then of course the Russians and the Georgians have been playing the "he started it!" game. I've been praying that the people in South Ossetia and Abkhazia can achieve peace and democratic self-determination. And that world powers don't muck it up for them.
