I've been trawling through here for a while now, and have corresponded with Jeff a few times in the past. I thought it was high time I threw my hat in the ring.
As for who I am, I'm a college student trying currently trying to fight with financial aid in order to finish. My major is in Aviation and my minor is in business, which neither have much to do with writing. But, hey! Richard Bach turned out a few good books.
Along with writing, a few of my other hobbies are role-play, fantasy cartography (including stellar), geofiction, constructed languages, and drawing. Outside, I like to fly, hunt (especially waterfowl - or as I like to call it, a preemptive-strike), fish, camp, hike, and bike.
Most of my writing is done through role-play or short stories (though what is a novel but a collection of interconnected short-stories called chapters). I've also compiled a bit in the way of notes and sketches on the various world projects I've been developing. I say various because I keep starting from scratch when I don't like one, but I keep the previous ones in-case I suddenly like them again.

If you ever give your works a public reading, you could promote them as "Spokane Word" events.

Don't run him off already; although if he's into aviation he probably doesn't scare easily. I know a few pilots and they are a very different bunch.

I live in a state called Washington that has a town called George and decides governor elections via lawsuit. I'm a Christian, an amature writer, and enjoy strapping myself into an overgrown pop can and climbing it 7000 feet off the ground. I have four strikes that indicate I'm enough off my rocker to enjoy puns.  |

Oh, I wouldn't say he's not eccentric. I already acknowledge my own eccentricity. I actually think the smell of hot oil and avgas wafting up from a hot tarmac actually smells heavenly and if I so much as hear the sound of a plane turn ADD and search for it. And that's just the Aviation side. |

Oh dear! He's into the avgas smell and can identify anything man-made in the sky. Right down to the name of the foreman of the shift who built the frame. (Oh, okay, that's an exaggeration, but not by much!)
He read about some notable aviator who married his wife because she was willing to keep a meadow mowed when he turned it into a landing strip. My son is now on the lookout for such a prize.
He's still in college, so hope remains he'll recover from this mania, but reading your posts, I think the chances are slim.

I work at the airport as a ground handler for UPS and amaze people by telling them which stall of our two is arriving when it's still a mile or more out just by the tail of the aircraft.

Sorry to inform you Teskas, but they never get over it. Never. I speak from experience mind you. Two uncles, a brother in law, all pilots. My husband, crew chief. Even now, although none of them are working at those tasks, if it flies, they look up and discuss it. Planes, helicopters, kites, big birds, it doesn't matter. You just learn to look up and say "Yeah, cool honey" and go on with life.  |

Hey Spokane, I know a book you might enjoy. Teskas, your son might want to read it as well. I think you can still find it on Amazon, at least you could the last time I looked which was just a few months ago. The title is "Border Pilot" and it's by M. W. Bourne. It's autobigraphical; it's really just a series of stories by a former crop-duster and AF pilot. Now, I will admit to being biased since Mr. Bourne is my uncle, but the book is really very entertaining and informative. He spent several years crop-dusting in South Texas after a stint in Viet Nam. I really think you would enjoy it.
BTW, my uncle has never married.

I'll have to check into it. I have so many books on my shelf that I need to read first. I keep buying at a faster rate than I read them. And don't tell me that, I'm one of the few guys in their early twenties that would actually like to be married someday.  |
