I realize God has different missions for different people in different places at different times. But Paul instructed Timothy, and by extension, us, to pray with all prayers, supplications, intercessions and thanksgivings for all in authority, that we might live peacefully and continue in our worship and evangelism (or something like that. I'm not about to make an issue out of the language). So we in my congregation have been called to a 40 day fast for our nation.
There are a number of issues at stake. We can pray:
that God would guide us in our voting for president
That He would establish the person He wants in office, and give them favor
That they would lead in a wise, effective and godly manner
That all of the government would work together to accomplish God's ends
Concerning the financial "Crisis" with which our nation is currently faced
For the hearts and minds of those impacted by said crisis
Against the fear and the spirit of suicide that might assail them
For an increase in righteousness and a hunger for righteousness in our churches, our nation, and our government
Concerning those being increasingly persecuted both here in America and around the world, that they would either be delivered from it or would have the strength to endure it, and that God would be glorified in and through it all
For the youth of our nation because of the various issues they face
For the children because of the issues that they face
The list could go on for a while. Pastor asked us to choose, in our small groups, three upon which to focus.
I invite any who are so led to join me in this campaign for our nation.
