Just wanted to drop a note to introduce myself. My name is Jessica Thomas. I am a writer, scifi fan, and a Christian, so you probably know what that means. I have recently decided to take my writing more seriously, so I "moonlight" as a writer. By day, I am a computer programmer, which has proven helpful because I have put my skills to use to create a website for myself @ www.jdog-ink.com. The purpose of the site is to market my unpublished novel, The Exception, but it's also a place for me to post some of my short stories and poems. I've also create a blog called "The Play Yard". Its direct link is www.jdog-ink.blogspot.com. I'm just coming off two years of crash course java development, so although I would like to host my own blog at my own URL, that just hasn't happened yet (don't feel like learning any new techie stuff right now).
I spent last year (2008) polishing up my novel and setting up my site, as well as searching the internet for kindred spirits who also enjoy the Christian Speculative Fiction genre. As a techie female, you might have guessed I tend to be a bit tomboy-ish (not that all techie females are, but, well, a lot are), so when I go into a Christian bookstore (or check out the Christian fiction section at Barnes & Noble), I always look for something quirky and/or speculative and come up dry. I pick up the women's fiction titles and read the backs, but that's not really me. Not putting down Christian women's fiction because I actually have an idea for a series. However, I tend to like quirky writing and quirky stories, and would like to see much more quirkiness in the Christian fiction sections. I would like to see Christians embrace their "inner artists" and begin to courageously explore the arts rather than merely striving to create "safe" alternatives.
So, that's why I'm here. This looks like the right place for someone like me. I look forward to conversing with you all.
