This is such a great find. I spent many years away from spec fiction, only to start reading again about 5 years ago. I re-read Tolkien and Lewis and felt that there had to be more books out there awing and inspiring people, so I began employing the internet to investigate my favorite past time of old, fantasy fiction. I found many recommendations and read a lot of series. To my chagrin, most of what I read ended up being hopelessness described as "gritty realism." I was extremely disappointed to find that, perhaps, fantasy was dead, or dying, since the 'fantasy' (i.e. the awe inspiring hope and grandeur conveyed by the likes of Lewis and Tolkien) seemed to have given way to the 'real' and 'gritty.' Isn't the societies we've created and the world we've deluged with our own sin got enough of the 'gritty' and 'real' in it?
Lo and behold, a poster on another board makes a recommendation for this site (maps end) and I find this forum. "Hope springs eternal!!" Many thanks to whomever(s) ( ) is responsible for having assembled this site and forum.
By way of background, I've graduated college, served in the U.S. army (infantry medic), worked in E.M.S., law enforcement and currently work as a technical specialist/research associate in the field of ophthalmology testing and recording the level of efficacy of investigative pharmaceuticals in potentially blinding diseases and conditions(i.e. diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataract formation).
I have been working for quite some time on a world, set of characters and overall theme for a story. It is my hope, in writing a tale of fantasy fiction, to offer at least one youngster out there an opportunity to dream and have a glimpse at a world that inspires an aspiration to the notions of faith, devotion, fellowship, virtue and a love of Christ.
