I tremble when I introduce myself only because I never know what to say (much like my stories ), but I'll do it anyways to paint a picture behind the link. The name's Gabriel Guerrero (or Gabe if you prefer), and I belong to the 10% of guys who don't have middle names. I've wanted to be a writer ever since I read Robert E. Howard's Conan stories in 6th grade. I gave up on the idea during college, but picked it back up again a couple of years ago when I just couldn't shake my desire to craft a wuxia fantasy world to show the teachings of Christ.
My influences are the hard-boiled school of writing (Hammett and MacDonald for plotting, Chandler for scenery and prose, and Vachss for impact) without the nostalgia that I think plagues hard-boiled fantasy. The current practice of this blend becomes more of a cute pastiche rather than an actual practice, and some writers I think try too hard. I've got three series whirling in my head. One's seeing paper, the other's seeing definition, and another--the oldest and most soft-boiled --is still an embryo due to the epic-sized nature of it, but I think upon completion (and hopefully publication) it will be a complete working-out of the gospel and the power and love of God in a series-novel format. All three are loosely tied.
Anyways, I hope to make some friends here, grow as a writer, more importantly help others grow as writers, and evetually be able to celebrate publication with you guys too I belong to a writer's group here in the Dallas/Fort-Worth area, but my current writing-schedule has prohbited me from attending much. So I'll be lurking.
