Hey, all! I'm sure you've heard of Focus on the Family and Dr. James Dobson. The news on the wire is that he has resigned as chairman of the ministry. He will still be active with the daily radio broadcast and the monthly newsletter, but otherwise, he is handing over ministry control to new leadership. Many of the employees (and a lot of my friends) are really uncertain about what the future holds. I'm sure many Christian ministries are facing similar circumstances. With recent lay-offs, the current economy, and now this news, Focus could really use the prayer support right now. They are a great ministry and they help millions of folks every day. For those of you who might not be familiar, their website is: www.family.orgThanks! Ashley

Ah, but what you're doing is vital to our country. You don't know how much we appreciate you and what you do.

Also, it's my understanding that Dobson stepping down was part of their 6-year transition plan. I don't think it's a sign that the ministry is in trouble, though I know they've had layoffs lately.
Dobson is aging. I think it's wise that he's got a transition plan and is sticking to it despite what are surely temptations to panic and stick around to hold on tight with human power.

You're right. They have been planning this for a while. And a friend stated this was not by any means a financial decision. That's a good thing. Nothing with the broadcast or Dobson's outreach is going to change, from what I gather. He will still represent Focus. Just the inner workings will be handled by another member of the board. When I first posted this request, the announcement had just been made and a few of my friends were uncertain. The dust has now settled and everyone seems to be looking up again. Thanks for the prayers!

I don't think finances would have anything to do with it because, from what I understand, Dobson doesn't take a salary from Focus. I think he gets all his money from his book sales.

Yes, indeed - that is the case. Or...was the case.
