Flyboy--I saw your quote by Richard Bach--I went up in an open cockpit biplane after I read that book. Picture a perfect summer day over the Flatirons in Boulder...nothing quite compares. It was a good book, despite being extremely steeped in new-age religious beliefs. Unfortunately, he and Leslie divorced a few years back. His own personal philosophy is that we were never born and never truly die, but are in this current world just for our own fun. However, with all books, there are certain truths to his works that resonate with me even as a Christian that I take with me. I believe in soul mates. I believe we are in this world for our own enjoyment. In the end though, I believe if is all due to God. God created the world and deemed it good, then sin entered and it wasn't good. I also believe that God has soul mates for some of us. I says "some of us" because I've always hated the cliché response I hear even from my friends in the church, "God created someone for all of us". My response when I was feeling extremely down was usually, "Yeah, and mine stepped into the crosswalk and got hit by a bus." Even though that was just a negative response, lashing out, it did have me thinking about such things. If God created me specifically for someone, yet I died tonight, how do you reconcile that with the popular belief that God created a match for everyone. There would now me someone without a match. So I eventually realized that God doesn't have one for everyone and the best I can do is just love God and if he has a wife planned out for me, it's a blessing. If he doesn't, well, there is no marriage in Heaven, so what was I being so depressed and anxious for here on Earth? Anyway, enough hijacking of this thread. Welcome, again, to The Anomaly.

Wow, I can tell I've been gone for a while, there's all these new people! So... welcome! I'm also a mom but I don't live in Colorado. I live on the beautiful coast of Oregon!
As far as writing, it gives my brain something to work on while I'm doing laundry, dishes, diapers... you get the picture ;P

CS--I'm afraid if you're crazy enough to write spec-fic before you even have kids to make you crazy, there's little hope for you...(kidding, of course.) I'm grateful for the internet, where all of "our kind" can find each other easily. I'll pray you get to come home when they say.
Flyboy--I agree Bach's writing is filled with new age ideas--I read his stuff many years ago and I don't agree with too much of it now (what I can remember of it.) However, I'm glad his thoughts lead me to that most memorable plane ride. (There was only one other flight I remember more vividly, a white-knuckle one on Air Egypt, that left me wanting to kiss the ground when we, much to our amazement, landed safely.)
As for the whole idea of soul mates...I'll just pray that God brings you the right woman at the right time. When I wanted to get married, it seemed the man I was looking for must have gotten hit by that bus you were talking about. But, in retrospect, if I had met him when I thought the time was right, we would probably have had nothing in common--we had a number of trials and changes to go through before we fit together.
Morwena--lucky you--on the coast of Oregon! I've never been there, I've been to California and Washington, though, so I have some idea of what it looks like. Are you a stay-at-home mom? Your description reminds me of those days.

Flyboy -- not matchmaking, just passing along a bit of experienced wisdom -- God provides us with what we need to fully serve Him best. If that includes a mate, then He has one all picked out and we'll eventually find them if He has to pick them up and move them across the country. If we can best serve Him solo, then it's a bit pointless to waste time looking.

How many of us live in the Denver area? Seriously considering starting a secondary writers group. (Not that I don't like the one I'm in, but it sometimes gets bogged down in unrelated silliness, and I would really like to participate in one that is primarily more geared towards discussion of the writing.)

Divides--I'm in Arvada and I'd be interested in a group if we can find a time that works for all of us. Let me know...
